GT: Spurs vs. Heat

Post#1 » by Nolan » Thu Nov 29, 2012 1:16 pm

When: 8:00 PM ET, November 29, 2012
Where: AmericanAirlines Arena, Miami, FL

Starting Lineups:

Spurs:
PG - Tony Parker
SG - Gary Neal
SF - Danny Green
PF - Tim Duncan
C - DeJuan Blair

Heat:
PG - Mario Chalmers
SG - Dwayne Wade
SF - Shane Battier
PF - LeBron James
C - Chris Bosh

Well its only fitting that the last game of our 6 game road trip is going to be the toughest test for us and its also coming on the second night of a back to back.

The defending champs are a very tough team to match up against so this should be a very interesting contest.

Go Spurs!!

This could get really ugly. Our best bet on guarding Lebron is with.. Blair.. and Diaw. I think Battier is injured so he's probably not gonna play. Heat has a strong small ball lineup that we have no way of guarding.

This is a back to back game and last game of the road trip (guys are tired). Miami is rested and ready. Their home. Our big 3 and bench played well againts Orlando. Not sure I can expect that to happen twice in a row. Either our bench won't show up, or the big three don't show up.

Key to this game IMO is whether Tony and Manu can get to the rim. Miami is a very strong perimeter defensive team. They have athletisicm and length there sort of like Memphis. I'm not sure we can take advantage of our low post game either considering Duncan has basically turned mostly into a face up player.

Betting sites have Miami winning by 6. I'm picking Miami.

Miami should win this, it's a b2b for us and I think we'll keep it close but Lebron will pull some craziness in the last few mins to win it.

TD, TP, Manu and Green sent home for rest. We're playing nine tonight. I'm predicting a 30 point loss with Splitter being our top scorer.

I love how Pop made a game out of this, with Splitter and Neal stepping it up. What does Stern have to say now? The game came down to the last few shots. This entire "sanction" thing is silly.

Agreed.

Loved what I saw from Nando as well, he needs to cut down on the turnovers but he looked good.

agree with all the pro pop sentiment here...
what better way to develop your young players than playing them against the current champs on national tv? playing this one game does more for nando than playing 10 mins of garbage time in 8 games....
rest your starters since you know you're not going to be challenging the regular season win records...
if anything this game showed that a post duncan/ginobli/parker spurs will be very competitive as well...

if stern's going to 'punish' the spurs in any way, he better find a real justification...

Well, back to the game...

Okay I finally understand why Nando is the backup PG. He's the purest PG of all our PG candidates. Patty is basically a Parker-lite. Neal isn't a good PG. Cory Joseph is basically Patty-lite. Nando ran the point everytime he's in the game and I thought he did quite well. Given big minutes, Nando is probably a better pure PG than everyone else. Here's the thing though, Nando is sort of Beno Udrih in the sense that he's a pure PG whose impact doesn't show enough in limited minutes. When we're at full strength and looking for 12 minute backup PG, Patty has been a scoring spark. Nando is.. well.. I guess decent. He rarely has any impact on the game. So basically, in a game like this where Nando gets 30 minutes, I see how much steadier our offense is with him on the floor opposed to him off the floor (because Gary and Patty are jacking up shots at PG). But at full strength, we already have Manu playing that role and Manu fits in better with scorers.

Stern needs to start dictating starting line-ups, minutes played and substitutions, too. Bastarde!!!
