Re: Terrence Ross's 3 point shooting
Yeah, Ross had a super quick release in college. But some of that could be attributed to weaker defenders when they're running out to get a hand up on a shot. NBA players are a different breed athletically and physically. As soon as that ball leaves the passers hand, Ross already has to be ready to catch the ball in his shooting pocket.
Basketball is like poetry in motion, cross the guy to the left, take him back to the right, he's fallin back, then just J right in his face. Then you look at him and say, "What?" - Jesus Shuttlesworth

Re: Terrence Ross's 3 point shooting
I think Ross should stick to his strengths until his 3 point shot becomes more reliable.
His reliability from just inside the arc (college 3) seems money.
I am also really impressed with his accuracy on floaters.
I think he has the skills to be a pretty good player in this league (Michael Finley level). Just needs to add some size/ strength desperately.

Re: Terrence Ross's 3 point shooting
If you made this thread 24 hours ago, Ross would be 10/30 (33%). Sample size is tiny.
Also, it's much less worrying than his 3 FTA. That's right, heading into last night's game he had 1 FTA and now he has 3 FTA (which, by the way, he's all missed). Our athletic swing man hasn't hit a FT 14 games into the season.

Re: Terrence Ross's 3 point shooting
He needs more time before we judge his ability. Demar could barely get the ball to the rim from 3 before last season.
Ross is not getting to the line but this was a known weakness coming out of college.

Re: Terrence Ross's 3 point shooting
He's clearly pressing a bit with his jumper and appears to be aiming it far too much, the ability is still there - don't worry.
It's funny...if you see him shoot in a dead ball scenario his release is so quick, natural and just splashes through the net. Once he really establishes his comfort level you'll see the shots dropping with more consistency.

Re: Terrence Ross's 3 point shooting
Ross is good at taking open shot. Unlike Bargnani and DeRozan, he is not someone who can initiate the offense. And he is not Bargnani who has a quick release with a high release.
If we can give him open shot, he can knock them down (as he adjusted). However, we lacked playmaker. This is why Lowry who passes out, Bargnani improves his vision, and DeRozan willingness to pass, are the keys.
Also, I would like Rose to practice PnR, he has potential, and is a good passer with good vision.

This is the problem, he's often not going straight up on his shots. It could be someone is contesting and he's anxious about being blocked. He just needs to recognize when he's open enough to shoot and go straight up. He's shown some recent improvement in terms of catching up to the speed of the game, so I would expect he sorts this out too.

He was looking pretty quick on the release in the Houston game, pretty sexy on those curls too.

Props TZ!

In the game threads you guys were saying he had a quick release, now this thread is inundated with "slow release" posts. Make up your damn minds already.

YES!!!! I think 26 shots is enough to tell if he needs to improve it.

Re: Terrence Ross's 3 point shooting
I think when he sets up feet square and jumps straight up he l oops good but there are times where he almost looks like he is fading back I could be wrong but that could be a issue. However when he gets close he has some nice floaters in the lane which are real nice. I like his game overall he is a very good defender and communicates well, he rebounds well for his position and I love his explosiveness and quickness laterally. It's his rookie year so I am willing to wait and see more out of him till his second year and then see what kind of player he can really be.

He's a good shooter. All rookies struggle with their shot in year 1 because they don't know how to pick their spots, and have to adjust to defences. But you can already tell he's comfortable from long range.

Everything about his mechanics is fundamentally sound. He's just rushing his shots that's it -- even when open.

Re: Terrence Ross's 3 point shooting
I think he's just not used to the speed of the game yet. In college he was probably used to being able to get a shot off every time when Player X was ____ feet away. Now he can't. And he's learning he can't.
He seems startled or surprised when guys challenge his shots. He'll start his motion normally and then someone will get up around his hand and he'll accelerate his shot. That's why he hit all backboard a couple times (missing long) IMO.

I do agree with this and all he needs is small tweaks nothing major he has a great form just being able to quicken it or do something small to make his release quicker but still fluid. There are times you can see that he will even rush his shot because he thinks someone could block it or maybe come in and challenge him this has happened to Jonas as well. Once he gets e quickness of the game and used to the NBA three he should be fine. I am holding my critical judgments till his sophomore year which I think is fair.

Here's another stat for you. Our knock down shooter is also 0-3 from the line this year. I don't know whats worse. That he only has 3 free throw attempts or that he hasn't hit a free throw yet?

Re: Terrence Ross's 3 point shooting
Ross shot selection or lack thereof is horrible. Guy should just layup/dunk till he gets his shot nba ready.
