Um que? Not that I'm in college basketball practices like that, but I'm pretty sure that not ALL college level players shoot 90% in practice. Where'd you pull that number from?

I can say for a fact that no one on my college team shot 90% in practice, especially not me. Of course, we were *literally* the lowest ranked team in NCAA basketball at the time I was there. :D

I get that Wall never focused on a jumper because he didn't have to because of his size and speed. I get that. It also concerns me. If you plan on playing in the NBA, you have to know you are going to have to work on that kind of thing if you plan on being a great player.

That said. Rondo was a terrible shooter and even Rondo got noticeably better over time as he worked on it.

Still looks like he's releasing on the way down to me. Don't like it.

It's evident from that video that he's been working on his shot. He's freezing the follow through and the stroke looks cleaned up. I don't like that extra leg kick he does on the elbowish jumpers (early part of the video) -- it creates some instability, which will lead to some additional misses. Also don't like the guide hand placement -- it's still on top of the ball. He has time getting it off just right or that off hand could move the ball off target and/or put some extra spin.

It looks better, but I'm still seeing a few things I'd want him to fix.

He did look that way on those pullup's near the foul line but on his other shots he didn't seem like he was doing it. It's almost like his form looks better when he doens't get as much elevation. When he gets high off the ground he tends to hold the ball too long.

Actually hands nailed it. When it goes in, it's smooth and there's really no hitch. When he misses, there is a slight hitch. Not perfect, but I do see progress.

Also happy to see him shooting 3s. Hopefully he'll add that back in to his game this year.

He looks like it's only a matter of time before he's playing again. Maybe sometime next week?

I was over on sb nation and the Philly guys were talking about how nick young reps the opposite of what they want from a ball player but how they just love him anyway.. Personality, his love for the game. It's been a while since Philly had a character like that on their team. Made me think damn they should have seen the wizards.. Nick, dray, javale, Gilbert, deshawns can't feel my face, Caron, AD complaining to nick torun plays, aj flipping shots Ethan and Haywood beefing, songaila.. Ruffin all in one spot. And pech I get mad buckets son. I miss that team

I miss those 45 win teams. I remember at the time saying I wish we could bottom out so we could rebuild a contender, but after this disaster of a start I'd rather go back to those days. No we'd never win a title but who cares? It's almost impossible to win in the rigged ass NBA anyway. At least we'd have entertaining basketball for 6 months a year to bridge the gap between NFL and MLB.

Appreciate that DAT.

Hey, what would be good practice for Wall would be to practice shooting like Gil was. One handed. That would teach him to get that guide hand off the ball and remove the hitch. Can't hitch it if you can't hold it. Not unless you have Shaq hands.

He needs to learn to trust the process/form of shooting. You can tell he is still trying to guide/feel the shot to much. You can't he a good shooter if you are doing that.

Targeting with eyes and getting his body into the right position to enter the shot should be 100% of his focus.
Knees bent. Elbow and wrist cooked. Ball held off the palm of the hand.
Then just take the energy from your legs up and through the elbow and flick the wrist.

If he gets the mechanics of getting into the right position and balanced going into the shot and his eyes are set on the target at a consistent point ( front of rim/back of rim), the rest should just be muscle memory.

The actually shooting part shouldn't even he something he thinks about. All his mental energy needs to be on getting to a spot to be able to shoot or looking the ball into his hands for the catch and shoot. And balance. And getting his body into the shooting position. That and targeting the rim. Shooting shouldn't even enter his mind. That should be a reflect that follows all those other things.

That's my two cents.

I don't miss it. It was fun the first year they got to the playoffs. After that, I personally had already given up on Gil leading them anywhere. DS was a fool. AJ had no D. I liked Haywood and Caron when healthy. Hated EFJ and this weave and heave no D ways.

They could have transitioned that team into something but the Gil contract killed that as did the EFJ and AJ extensions.

I knew the rebuild would be painful and wins would be hard to come by. Surely I would have made lots of different decisions then they made but this team is going to establish a new more solid baseline this year then what we have seen. Injuries over the summer crashed any chance of them getting off to decent start. Hell, they even had injuries since the year has started that add to the problem.

Nene, Wall and Kevin all out was killer. No Nene is one thing. But then Kevin was hurt. And no Wall. No way.
Add Singleton got hurt. Booker is now hurt. Livingston even missed a game. Hell even Pargo was hurt during preseason.

Just to much for a rebuild team like this to over come. Specially with a new coach and more new players.

They will look better. Most of us thought they would be near .500 when healthy. A defensive team with Wall and Nene as the core. I can still see them becoming that. Actually, I think they could be even a little better because back then we had no idea Webster would be this good or that they team would be adding Livingston.

And even with all of that, they were still in most games. A little more scoring ability would have helped a lot.

For now, they have everyone mostly back except Wall. Now its up to Randy to get the line up right.

I was thinking that yesterday, I miss those treadmill teams. I loved rooting for them and they were exciting to watch. The current Wizards are boring and I can't connect with most of the current players. This team will probably never win a title in my lifetime thanks to the NBA being so rigged.

It's weird, Wall seems to have his off hand halfway wrapped around the ball.

I think Wall returns at home against GSW.

Return to Washington Wizards
