Concern over Wade's poor start to the season

Post#1 » by hra8700 » Fri Nov 30, 2012 2:31 pm

Last year, in his first 11 games, Wade's true shooting was 49.4%.

The rest of the season it was 57.8%.

It's too early to tell whether he's getting old or whether it's just a small sample size and he's been a little knicked up.

Let's not freak out too soon!

Its November. He's coming off knee surgery. He's had a few smaller injuries this year already.

Not how he hoped to start the season, but history suggest you should not right D wade off yet.

My take on Wade's play is that its a combination of his role on the team, nagging injuries, and an inability to work on his game over the summer due to those said injuries.

Naild it.

Team/role wise he has to work off the ball more which is why needs a better jumpshot.

Exactly. The shots are there for him, and he's making some..but he's inconsistant and im sure he'll work on that part of his game at the first chance he gets. MJ is the prototype of this kind of a evolution, they both started out with very similar skillsets, MJ became a superb mid range shooter, and Wade should follow him.

Im Not really worried about Wade like some are, but i am pissed when he's coasting to the extreme on defense. im not expecting him to play D on a 100% effort during the regular season, but he's really pushing it with his 20% effort. he should really just try harder, it won't kill him to give 70% when Ray can back him if he gets tired. it sets a bad example and tone when he's so blunt about not trying.

This post from the other thread really nails the Wade issue IMO.

Why do you people have such high expectations for Wade??

He won't average 25/5/5 anymore, because those days are past him.

Good player, just not an all star anymore. Lucky that you have Lebron and Bosh.

IMO, this team seems too concerned with "getting Wade going" instead of playing within the flow of the offense. It's interrupting both Bosh's and Lebron's game and has been really obvious since Wade came back from turning his ankle. I think that's why these games are being played a lot closer than they should be...asides an absent defense. Wade will have some high scoring/EFFICIENT games again without forcing the issue. The HEAT are just trying too hard to quiet down the talk of Wades decline right now instead of building on chemistry.

You're an idiot if you think I hold something against Wade. I might have been harsh on him in the past, but now everyone else is too.

Please tell me, what am I hiding exactly? Are you two still pissed when I accidentally predicted Wade will avg 15/5/5, which is pretty much what he is averaging right now. 18/4/4 is no different than 15/5/5

Anyway, I love Wade but I lowered my expectations unlike some of you.

People are overreacting on how bad he's been playing. The judgments are too hasty, I'll give him more time before I decide he's declined or whatever.

On the other hand, his effort has been extremely poor, worse than pretty much anyone else on the team, mostly on the defensive end. It's okay to coast like the rest of the team is doing but he's giving even less effort than the others. He's got to close out better. I'm not as discouraged by his offense, when he posts up, he pretty easily overpowers his guy but can't get the shot to go. I'm assuming that will improve.

All in all, it's too early to come to any meaningful conclusions yet, we'll see how he does as the season goes on. The effort has to pick up though because there are some times when he's absolutely dogging it.

Wade just needs to play smarter, He's a mess on offense almost useless. And he looks like a headless chicken on D and leaves dudes wide open.

It's no secret we are 16-1 without him dating back to last year. We just play better without him. Mike Miller, Ray Allen, Lewis etc are just better with our system, D-Wade has no 3 shot, and barely makes a jumper a game now. He doesnt spread the floor for Lebron like everyone else does.

It's just how our system is, its not for D-Wade.

Playing next to lebron doesn't make him look any better either. I think its his normal slow start. If hes still doing this in January spo nay need to move him to the bench cause ray is outplaying him.

And why cant he add something to his game. Either a jumper or a post game. All he has anymore is a dribble drive.

When you are 30 years old, it's a lot harder to add much to your game

A lot of greats developed their game after 30 or when their physical gifts left them

15ppg 5rpg 4apg 55% FG! And of course, this is the most important , 80 games!
He needs to stay healthy, that's all that matters.

mirrornick wrote:Liar liar pants on fire?

And yeah I seriously meant 25ppg. 15 ppg is ridiculous for someone as talented as Wade.

Stop flip floppin' dude.

Wade to me has always had bad starts to the season. Ray Allen averaging double figures off the bench may have something to do with this despite playing with Wade at the end of games. BUT yeah Wade is off surgery, has always been rocky the past few years at the start. I remember though when Wade started to get spurt minutes or something and Wade was on a tear, he was at his best. Wade's not perfectly healthy ATM, though he never is. Just wait it out and evaluate people in May atleast. OR the All-Star break.

It takes time to get your legs going beneath you, especially when your recovering from off season surgery. And the early season injuries haven't helped out at all. Give him time and time will tell if he has lost a big step or not.
