Question about Garnett vs. Duncan (Timberwolf years)

Post#1 » by LinkedList » Fri Nov 30, 2012 7:19 pm

Hi all,

Come in peace! :) I just wanted to ask what you guys remember about Garnett during his years as a Timberwolf and how you viewed his battles against Duncan. I was ~13 years old when they were at their peaks and NBA TV was 'kinda' in its infant stages and I didn't pay for NBA League Pass that year (first year I paid was during Nenad Krstic's breakout year - the white Tim Duncan ). Did you guys think Garnett was better, equal, or worse than Duncan (at that time - not currently) and what gave you that view?

Thanks,
Biggest Darko Milicic fan in the world *gulp* (I come in peace!) :D

Bout equal or KG slightly slightly worse. They had very similar stats and I felt similar impact on the game due to very good offense and tremendous defense. Its hard to tell though since Duncan always had much better teammates than KG except for the 2004 season

Also, I dont know how anyone can be a fan of Darko. That's mind-boggling

I think KG was always just as good if not better, and would of been viewed that way if he had a real supporting cast like Duncan did. Duncan,IMO wasn't as good as KG was in his peak.

I thought most of the time they were dead even. But it's hard to say because KG always had to do all the heavy lifting (except for 2004). I think it comes down to preference. Do you want the traditional big or the Jack of all trades ?

I would have traded KG for Duncan in a straight up swap.

Not to say KG was not amazing, he was. Duncan was the best of his era though.

They were about the same, though Spurs fans and all of the media would have said Duncan was DRASTICALLY better. This is because our society believes that team success = individual talent. If KG played for the Spurs and Duncan played for the Wolves people would be talking about how much better KG was than Duncan, just the way it is.

I agree that Duncan is not significantly better than KG.

But he is easier to build around as a building block. Manu and Parker would not have fit as nicely with KG as they did with Duncan (They still would have been good however).

In the end I see them as comparable basketball players but Duncan is the better piece to build around.

I honestly believe that Duncan is the best power forward ever. That said, the arguments made these days that Dirk is in front of KG as far as power forwards go always makes me cringe. If Duncan is 1A, KG is 1B. Those are the 2 best power forwards of that era. That's it, end of discussion

I honestly believe that Duncan is not a power forward at all.
