Goat of the Game

Post#1 » by ATL Boy » Sat Dec 1, 2012 3:30 am

Well this is the first one I've done in a while, we need to box out!! Last Goat of the game only me and Jamaaliver voted, it was a tie but I'll discount my vote so that it isn't a tie anymore.

Larry Drew (2)
Josh Smith (2)
Kyle Korver (1)

Notes: If we had won 3 of these players would be options for player of the game. Josh Smith was amazing in this this game on offense, he had 25 and 8, but he was in charge of boxing out Varejao and he didn't do that at all in this one, Varejao got 18 rebounds, 7 of them offensive, I'm not trying to hate on Smoove, I love Smith but he didn't box out today; Al Horford is just as guilty as Smith in not boxing out, he was on Tristen Thompson who had 6 offensive rebounds, we need our bigs to box out; I had said that Larry Drew would've been on the player of the game list had we won and he would've, but we imploded in the 4th and the coach has to take responsibility, we had 6 turnovers in the 4th alone, James Pargo destroyed us, we didn't box out and the coach has to take some blame; Zaza came in and wasted 21 minutes, I love you big Z but 1-5 for 2 points, and 2 rebounds is unacceptable.

Just missed the cut: Jeff Teague: He was guarding Jeremy Pargo but what he did on offense made up for this.

Wasn't gonna be on this list at all: This is a silver lining to goat of the game, it's who our best player was and who was immune to this list tonight. Lou Williams: He was clutch tonight, 2 huge 3s to tie both times, 18 off the bench, he's mr. 4th quarter, good to have you Lou.

What I'd like to see: BOX OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its easy to say Box out but a lot of those rebounds were A: long bounces. That's on the guards. and B: contested. Its not like they were letting scrubs out rebound them. Anderson is leading the league in boards for a reason.

The Hawks barely had any boards and Smith and Horford basically had all of them.

I don't really have a goat of this game outside of the refs just letting the most illegal screens I have ever seen fly. Pargo wasn't exactly just blowing by Teague, he was getting really illegal screens to free him and getting to the rim. Plus he hit some really tough shots.

Sometimes you lose. No Goat for me tonight.

Horford was really the only man working in the paint. Dude is the model of consistency; 15 & 11 like clockwork.

Teague got eaten alive by Pargo in the fourth, but Pargo tends to do that alot. he is in the league as a scorer, pure and simple.

L Drew putting Smith on Varejao was a bust. Every time Smith left Varejao and attempted to block a shot, the guard simply hit a wide open Varejao.

Smoove, you gotta block out on the last shot of the game. especially against a smaller player. Nice numbers, but some questionable shots down the stretch. Tonight they went in, but that's not always the case. Notice his +/- for the game was -14.

Seemed like the offense was revolving around Josh more than usual tonight. Where's the offensive balance i was promised. there were at least anothe 5 shots not on record as he was fouled on the play. He easily had twice as many shots as anyone else tonight.

Why the heck did Morrow only play 6 minutes? 5 points in 6 minutes on 66% shooting warrants a tad more playing time.

Solid game by Devin harris.

Great game by Lou. In truth, we didn't deserve to win this game. We only had a shot to win because of Lou's big shots down the stretch.

I missed the game but Josh Smith had a hell of a stat line.

Josh had a good game scoring the ball. It appeared the game plan was to establish him early as the main option.
He took a few long two's and threes, but hit a fair amount of them.

On the boards, though, he didn't dominate; we got outrebounded 49-28. Also, he guarded Varejao a big part of the night. And varejao put up big numbers even though almost no plays were drawn up for him.

+1, I'm proud of how Josh did tonight, but he was in charge of Varejao who had 18 rebounds on him.

Eh I'll probably just do player of the game from now on

Jeffrey should definitely make the cut. Giving Pargo a fighter escort to the rim and then being responsible for half of the 4th quarter turnovers should gain you merit as a goat of the game.

Ill say LD, mainly because I felt he AGAIN left the second 5 in tooo long. Stphenson was 3/3? 4/4 in the first half from 3 point land, Smith Ill grade an A for this game, he made his FT, and shot the ball well even from outside.

Pargo went bananas so did Waiters for a stretch.
