Tyrus really is the only guy on the roster I could picture "squawking" about practice being too hard. Maybe Reggie and Diop or something. The guys thatll be here long term...Kemba MKG Mully Biz Taylor Higgins etc, I doubt it

Lol. Can't believe I just saw a Popovich comparison.

Unless MKG secures the 'Cats a 50 win record this season, this isn't a good comparison.

But a competent coach who cares >>>>>>>> coach who doesn't care

Their massive turnaround was also because this guy called David Robinson came back from a year long layoff from injury...

I know it's not a good comparison.

I think people are getting a little overenthusiastic about our start. I hate to downplay our winning streak (oh my god i love being able to type those last three words) but it is seven games of players trying to prove they are no longer the worst team in NBA history.

The only way to go when you hit rock-bottom is up.

I think 30 wins is plausible.

Am I the only one who feels conflicted when were winning since I know how incredible one more top 3 pick would be?

Right there with you buddy.
I am very scared of mediocrity. We need another great lotto pick to secure a good future and the best chance to get that great player is unfortunately by losing.

I believe that if this squad can get 30 wins then no way is out future mediocre.

The following would have to happen:

Kemba will have to sustain or improve his current level of play and be more consistent at doing so; he'll have to be on the MIP radar.

MKG gives Davis a serious run for ROY; 16/8/2/1.5/1.5, 48% type stat stuffing.

Sessions is Sixth man of the year candidate.

Tyrus has a career revival.

Biyombo contributes on both ends.

Mullens has to play with the heart he has recently while getting 46%+ from the field.

I think we peak at 22-26 wins, which for us is brilliant.

You don't HAVE to draft your superstar, you can always trade one. And when you're a young decent team everybodys trade value gets inflated. Instead of Cho calling GMs and trying to sell them on guys they've probably never even watched play because we sucked so bad, all of a sudden GMs will start calling US. And Cho will know what to do

to be honest, we're kind of seeing the downfall of the OKC model right now. They got so many good picks they couldn't financially sustain their team and had to trade their 2nd best player. Now they've gone from strong contender to near pretender status imo.

i prefer the spurs model. Get your big piece(MKG) and great coach, and become a team that churns out good players, looks like they find diamonds in the rough but in reality they just know how to develop and how to run a system.

I think everyone is envious of the spurs model. it's just that it is the hardest to pull off. As far as small markets are concerned, that organization is run to perfection. I get your point though.

Cho is an advanced stats guy right? IIRC one of the reasons the Spurs manage to draft well even without being in the lottery is their usage of advanced stats as well as tapping the European market.

Paraphrasing here - and to be honest I wasn't paying attention 100% - but during last night's Lakers/Nuggets game the commentators (JVG and someone else, told you I wasn't paying attention) were discussing early Coach of the Year candidates. The other guy mentioned the Bobcats and JVG said something to the effect of "The award should be renamed after Mike Dunlap."

Random I know, just thought it was a neat little comment and a nice testament to Coach's success thus far.

I love everything that Dunlap is doing (apart from playing Mullens a little too much), but I've got to say, part of the Dunlap love is the Paul Silas effect. A halfway competent coach looks like Greg Popovich in comparison to Silas.

The OKC model for acquiring talent is perfectly fine.

Where OKC dropped the ball at was managing such talent and transitioning from growing to itsourjobtowin mode. They also committed the cardinal sin of overvaluing talent in regards to Ibaka's contract.

MKG is nowhere remotely close to the centerpiece that Duncan is. That makes the Spurs model, at least in the growth regard, a terrible comparison.

When Silas replaced "Hall of Fame" Larry Brown, he lead us to a good second half of the season. People seem to forget that.

Most likely because he was running things the way LB did and didn't institute any of his system until the next season.
