He's driving hard to the basket beating his man off the dribble on mulitple possesions. What i want to see from Linsanity.

He scored on iso plays too.

We need to:
a.) run more of those
b.) he needs to have the sort of assertiveness he had today.

If he starts hitting his jumper he'll really hurt current defensive schemes against us. Nice few games.

His last 4 games...

13.5 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 7.2 APG on .604 TS%

If he can start getting to the line more (which was his strength last year), it would really make his game more consistent and efficient. But he's looked good overall his last 4 games..2.2 steals per game to go along with that as well.

Lin needs to pick it up because this has been routine for him now to hide away from close games. Harden can't handle being the primary scorer and ball handler. It screws up the flow of the game and forces the other 4 guys on the court to just stand and watch.

I don't get this at all. At no time in his entire basketball life has Lin "gone to hide" during key moments in games. Not in high school, not college, not his first year with Golden State when he was getting scrub minutes, not D-League, not his second year with Knicks when he was getting scrub minutes, not during Linsanity with D'Antoni, not during Woodson era. He's always been a gamer who lived for the big moments.

So why now? Is it the contract? Is it his knee surgery? Is it the coaching? It just doesn't make sense.

As I've always said Lin is the most self conscious player I have ever seen. I believe in him and think with his work ethic he's going to be great, but he needs to stop caring what everyone thinks of him.

Hopefully this is the turnaround game for him. Tough loss but It's encouraging to see Lin and Douglas both playing with a lot more confidence.

Interesting Lin/Harden & Parker/Ginobili comparison:

Feigen wrote:When Parker began his career, however, he struggled with the balance between playmaking and scoring. Through 83 games, he averaged 4.7 assists. Playing about eight fewer minutes per game, Lin is averaging 4.5 assists in his career so far.

“It’s his first full year,” Parker said. “There is a lot of attention on him. I think you have to be patient with his growth. When I first came into the league, I was a little raw. I was very aggressive. At the same time, I had to learn the point guard position and when to score, when to pass and try to find that happy middle, find the balance. I think Jeremy Lin is at that point.

“He’s trying to find his position on the team. And he needs to fit with another guy who is very aggressive with James Harden. I had to do the same thing when I had Manu Ginobili being super aggressive. You have to find your spots. He will.”

While Parker's words of wisdom are appreciated, the end result is that Ginobli is playing as a 6th man in SA. Hmmm......not exactly the same scneario we have here unless Parker is trying to tell us something? :) Notice that Harden played very well as a 6th man in OKC as well there wasn't enough ball to go around between Durant, Westbrook and Harden. I am not suggesting that Harden should come off the bench in Houston because of his contract and status, perhaps maybe Lin should then.....

You dont bench the better player for the lesser one.
Also those Spurs teams were deep and they had a guy named Tim Duncan which everything ran through.

I never suggested for Harden to be benched, no need to make this an opportunity to say who the better or lesser guy is :)

Also, I believe that Ginobli is good enough to start especially now that Duncan is past his prime but Popovich realizes that he's better suited to be a spark coming off the bench. This was why Harden was as 6th man as well in OKC and why Kevin Martin is currently one as well. It's important for some teams to have a 6th man that can make a big difference when the starters are resting. For this reason I wouldn't mind if Lin came off the bench as it doesn't necessarily mean that he's not good enough to start, it just means that it could present a better balance for the team.

I did some analysis of Lin's numbers when he has double figure scoring and when he doesn't. In his 20 games total:

PTS FGM-A 3PM-A FTM-A REB AST STL T/O 3PT% 2PT% FG% W / L

5.6 2.2 - 8.0 0.7 - 2.9 0.7 - 1.1 3.2 5.5 2.0 2.3 24.1% 29.4% 27.5% 4 - 6

18.4 6.1 - 12.5 1.2 - 2.7 3.7 - 4.1 5.1 7.0 1.7 3.1 44.4% 50.0% 48.8% 5 - 5

DIFF +/-

PTS +12.8
FGM-A +3.9 +4.5
3PM-A +0.5 -0.2
FTM-A +3.0 +3.0
REB +1.9
AST +1.5
STL -0.3
T/O+0.8
3PT% +20.3%
2PT% +30.6%
FG% +21.3%
+1
WINS

Basically, I think it's all about him hitting slightly fewer threes at a good percentage, so people respect his outside shot (making the defense come out), so he can attack the basket more and get to the FT line, as well as open up the passing lanes.

It also seems big Lin's bigger scoring games don't affect wins as much as Harden's big scoring games.

Knicks fan here. I come in peace. I really enjoyed Linsanity last year for us and was sorry to see him go.

From what I've seen, the Rockets appear to be trying to limit his turnovers by having him give up the ball so early. But until you trust Lin to run the offense, as D'Antoni did, you'll never realize his true potential IMO. The way the Rockets are using him is just wasting his talent. Why sign him to such a contract if you're just going to only allow him to bring the ball up over half-court and hand it to Harden?

Tim Duncan has been pretty much the best big in the league this year... he will/should receive DPOY and MVP considerations.
OKC has said they like having Thabo starting because he is a great defender. Relieves defense duties of Durant/Westbrook.
Neither of those teams need help scoring... then again I guess neither do the rockets... I still dont understand how this team is top 3 in scoring...

Didn't get to watch the game yesterday.. but Lin with 8 FGAs ? What's the problem here? Is he passing up open shots? I was hoping for Linsanity to break out again after that game against the Spurs..

Lin usually defers to other players when there are options. If he has the ball in his hands like he had when he was with the Knicks (early on) and against the Spurs, he will explode like that. Don't expect this yet with Harden on the floor. He still tries to find ways to play more efficiently, instead of turning into the brick bros you see with the Bucks. Houston needs to play him with Harden less to turn him into that option more regularly, similar to how Spurs utilize their players efficiently without one dominating the rest.
