O.T. Spurs sending players home, Stern promising sanctions.

Post#1 » by kam_soluusar » Fri Nov 30, 2012 8:55 am

What a crock. It's the coaches/franchises decision. Would the league rather the Spurs suit players up, and not let them play? Lie about non-existent injuries? Any team that is in this league, that is NOT about winning the title, should not be in the league. If resting players is a means to an end, so what? Stern has no right to fine/suspend based on this. Teams do it all the time towards the end of the season, San Antonio have one of the oldest teams in the league, it gives a chance for younger players to get some serious court time, also in crunch situations. (The game was pretty close!!!!) It can also be a good tactic. Wade goes into the game ready to defend Ginobli, then he is not playing. I also think that basing ticket prices, based on the team you are playing is a crock also. This was about money, pure and simple!!! Just another reason to hate the dictator named Stern!!!!

I support Popp 100% here. This is not a good move by Czar Stern.

Of course, I'm overall opposed to the scheduling of 4 games in 5 nights. With the season stretched out as much as it is that should never happen.

Also, the Spurs are a ridiculously deep and talented team. Such a well-run franchise!

Woulda been great if the Spurs had won, but I still dont think Stern would of cared. His view is fans go to see stars not to see a competative game. Curious if they had done an exit survey to see if the fans at the game really cared.

In the end, due to Stern opening his mouth before the game, he will attempt to punish the Spurs to save his own face.

When Stern calls Popp on this and asks why he did this, I want Popp just to say "For basketball reasons."

Honestly, I was more interested in this game after the announcement. We all know what to expect from Duncan et al. Its always interesting to see the other guys play knowing that they WILL get substantial playing time, and they CANNOT rely on the stars. They always have a little bit different swagger about them.

On top of all that:

ESPN has a poll running with 171,965 responses.

Overall Response:
20% NBA should punish the Spurs
80% NBA should NOT punish the Spurs.

Florida Response:
26% NBA should punish the Spurs.
74% NBA should NOT punish the Spurs.

Any punishment from Stern isn't for the fans.

Agreed.

I probably would not have watched the game last night until all of this happened. Turned out to be a damned good ball game.

Ok David stern, nice one, maybe you should require the awful teams to bench their players who are just terrible.

Spurs fined $250k. If I were the Spurs, i'd appeal it, and make a big deal about it. Or as I suggested, next time, play the players for one minute, and sub them off. Send them home at half time!

I will be so glad when Stern retires. Stupid old fart he is!

Woj:
Before the emperor of the NBA leaves his Olympic Tower office, this is the holy war that those within the San Antonio Spurs' extended family expected David Stern to eventually wage on Gregg Popovich and his program's culture. The commissioner burped that terse, threatening statement promising "substantial sanctions" to the rogue state of his totalitarian nation on Thursday night. This has been a long time coming out of the commissioner's office.

And yet, once more, Stern's tossed a temper tantrum that left everyone around him embarrassed, humiliated and wondering why he insisted on staying until February of 2014. All these years, Stern and his underlings privately complained and moaned that no one wanted to watch the Spurs, that they destroyed his TV ratings, that they were uninteresting, unappealing and impossible to market to the masses.

The emperor of the NBA wasn't standing up for the fan on Thursday night, but settling an old score on his way out of office, on his way to a February 1, 2014, retirement date that suddenly seems so far away. Even within a league that would've never imagined the core of the Spurs dynasty could stay on top longer than the commissioner who wished them away, the expiration date on the emperor still feels so far away. Nevertheless, make no mistake: David Stern wanted these players gone all the way until Thursday night, all the way until they became convenient devices for his failed culture war on the San Antonio Spurs.

Stern just gets annoyed when all 30 of the NBA's head coaches aren't on their knees with their mouths open waiting to suck his shrivelled little pecker, and pea sized genitals. In that previous article, it uses a few points relevant to other teams. The only time Stern has liked Houston in the last decade, is when we signed Yao, and opened the NBA market to the chinese.

Stern's retirement should be declared a national holiday. I can't decide what I hate more, Dallas, Utah, or David Stern. (Twighlight and Lord Of The Rings is up there as well!)

I hope that you all won't think less of me, but I would love to see the Spurs win the championship this year as a final "FU" to David Stern.

Yeah, I'd prefer the Rockets win...but I'm talking realistically here. This would make me happy.

Stern has really set a precedent. Watch the amount of Plantar Fascilitis that affects the league now.

He's going to want to bring back the injured list.

Spurs should give their big 3 the next game off too, say that they have sore backsides from being anally violated by the league, verbatim.

The way the Spurs big 3 played tonight they looked as if the rest helped them, actually.
