This is total BS
It's a non issue except for the fact that it was a national televised game. Where is the justice that our national televised game was against the champs after nearly a week off and we have played 4 in 5
As far as I'm concerned pops first concern is his players welfare and 2nd is winning a championship. Any other concern is irrelevant.
If resting our aging stars, one of whom has shown a growing tendency to get injured, is what pop deems as appropriate who is stern to intervene?
What about GS blatantly tanking last year so they wouldn't lose their draft pick, or the countless other times teams waste march and April to increase their lottery chances.
Or when just about every playoff team who has secured their spot, resting their players.
Hell if we are that concerned why do we even have garbage mins?
Stern wants to see the best play all the time? Sanction teams for pulling starters in a blowout, who wants to pay to watch a bunch of scrubs go at it for no reason...
Teams should have total autonomy on rosters, so long as both teams arrive with the appropriate number of people dressed play ball and STFU
And in regards to the minutes issue, it's not just game time, Spurs have done a lot of traveling in the last 5 days before the game, thats taxing enough without playing basketball not mention Leonard and Jackson two of our tougher defenders are injured so I would assume that players like green and Manu have had to guard bigger players at the 3 who they don't normally guard. There are a lot more issues other than a pure minute per game stat.
Like I said at the top total BS

It won't change jack
Pop will still rest the key players when he wants but he won't be honest anymore. He will simply use an ill or injury excuse and Stern won't be able say **** about it.
If Stern wants to see the stars playing every game, then he should make a better calendar. How can you blame a coach for resting his key players when his team has to play 4 games in 5 nights.
Freaking ridiculous.

Shaq on Duncan:SA won because of TD, a guy I could never break.I could talk trash to Ewing, get in D-Rob's face, get a rise out of Mourning, but when I went at Tim he’d look at me like he was bored and say:“Hey,Shaq, watch this shot right off the glass.”

Re: Sanctions coming for sitting of big 3
It sounds like the Spurs have a problem with the season being 82 games long. Have they done anything to bring about a reduction in the length of the season? During CBA negotiations was the time to do it. Once a decision is made on how long the season will be, teams need to accept it, and if still unhappy try to get more owners on board next time the CBA comes up for discussion. Putting a crap product that hurts ratings isn't the right way to go about it.

No it sounds like the Spurs and the other 29 teams have a problem when a team plays 4 games in 5 nights and the other team rests for 4 straight days. Make a better calender and all the players will show up every game. Putting a crap calendar and expect the coaches to play their star players every night isn't the right way to go about it.
Stern only made a big case of it because it was a national game against Miami. Pop did the same thing last season against POR and UTAH and no words from Stern. Miami did it last season against Boston and GS put a "crap product" the entire final season to keep their lottery pick and zero words from Mr Stern.
In the end, the Miami game gave major confidence to some bench players like De Colo and Splitter. It was worth it, even with the fine. Pop will still do it, but simply expect illness and fake injuries instead of the truth.

Re: Sanctions coming for sitting of big 3
I hate that the Spurs got fined for doing something they were perfectly within their rights to do. With that being said, however, I really don't like the idea of sitting players out completely. A big part of one's performance is being able to keep a rhythm (even the most consistent players still go through streaks) and not playing enough impairs that. I understand that it's a matter of fatigue here, but couldn't they have started the backups and take the Big 3 off the bench for 10-15 minutes?
Also, I guess I'm pretty old school in that I value the "Games Played" column and iron-man streaks very highly. There was a time when players went all 48 minutes.
