A Long Term Outlook: Brooklyn Nets

Post#1 » by mikeaman » Mon Dec 3, 2012 2:21 am

Here is what your front office should be thinking right now:

The starting five is set. In the second unit (which I believe has the potential to be something special),

Gerald Wallace moves to the power forward position and Joe Johnson slides to the 3. Now, what the

team is missing is a shooting guard in that second unit who is a two way player. CJ Watson is not.

Neither is Keith Bogans. And Stackhouse is playing amazing but I don't think it will last. I think that

what Brooklyn is going to do at the trade deadline is the following. I think they are going to trade

Mirza Teletovic, 3 million in cash, three future first round picks (2014, 2016, and 2018), and possibly

Marshon Brooks to Orlando in a deal to acquire Aaron Affalo. Now, take a look at this second unit

lineup for a second:

PG: Williams
SG: Affalo
SF: Johnson
PF: Wallace
C: Lopez

I envision in a playoff series you guys would keep the same starting lineup and the first substitute

would be Aaron Affalo replacing Kris Humphries (like 4 minutes into the first quarter). In the more

athletic lineup above, you have a post threat at the 4 and the 5. And the 3 for that matter.

And quality versatile defenders all over the place. As well, Aaron Affalo expires in 2016 with everybody

else on your squad except Deron. He can also definitely be had as Orlando is struggling.

This trade is similar to how the Lakers acquired Steve Nash whereby you fork over future first round

picks years down the road in an effort to round out your roster.

Arron Afflalol for three first round picks, Marshon Brooks, and Mirza Teletovic?

Seems reasonable. Should we throw in a Brook for Hedo trade, too?

Seriously, that trade is almost as much as what the Magic got for Dwight Howard.

It's a simple formula for Brooklyn's second unit (which is the unit I want to get the majority of

the minutes).

Williams/Watson
X
Johnson
Wallace
Lopez/Evans

X has to be a two way shooting guard. A defensive player who also brings something offensively.

The top three guys on Brooklyn's board should be:

Aaron Affalo
OJ Mayo

and a distant third:

Jared Dudley

The advantage of Affalo and Dudley is that they both expire in 2016 when everybody else on the

team does. But, Brooklyn should be willing to trade Teletovic, and future first rounders into the

future to acquire any one of these guys. Affalo and Dudley will definitely be available since they

are both on losing teams. Mayo might be if Dallas falls out of the playoff picture by the trade deadline.

So what handle do you normally go by Orlando Magic fan multi-accounter?

This is like Isiah Thomas calling Pat Riley a bad GM.
