Minnesota - Milwaukee
Minnesota trades: Derrick Williams + Luke Ridnour
Milwaukee trades: Monta Ellis
Why for the Wolves? We need another scorer to pair with Love. Ellis has flaws, but he can score in a variety of ways...posting up, with the ball and he's underrated off the ball.
Why for the Bucks? Ellis is having a down year(shooting 40/18), and him and Jennings don't seem to fit together very well. This gives them a veteran PG that is familiar with the team, and a prospect to pair with Jennings/Udoh/Sanders/Harris and Henson for their rebuild.

Re: Minnesota - Milwaukee
I'd be all over that. If we could substitute Barea or move him for an expiring as well that'd be ideal as Ellis and Barea both kind of bring the same thing to the table.

Re: Minnesota - Milwaukee
Solid enough deal, but I really question his fit here. With Rubio, Barea, Shved, and Ellis there wouldn't be enough minutes to go around unless Shved plays a lot of SF, which isn't ideal.
Edit:
However, if we can get rid of Barea somewhere, too
Ellis(18)/Shved(30)
Rubio(30)/Ellis(18)
would be a very good rotation.

Re: Minnesota - Milwaukee
Monta played pretty solid next to Baron Davis, if I remember correctly. I think playing alongside a playmaking PG, Monta can excel or at least play within the system. When Monta tries to do too much with the basketball, that's when the chucking happens and the stupid TOs. As a 3rd option playing alongside Rubio, he's not a bad option.

No chance the Bucks would do it, and I'm not sure I would either. Not a big Ellis fan.

Re: Minnesota - Milwaukee
Maybe I heard wrong, but I was under the impression that Monta had one ability - scoring - and he needed the ball in his hands to do it. Don't we want to keep the ball in Rubio's hands?
I understand that we're not going to get a SG that fits all of our needs perfectly, but I've been acting as if Monta has some value to a team that wants to spend money, but he is just a really bad fit with our team?

I think Monta gets a bad rap from his time in GSW. When I see him play...he moves great without the ball. I believe that Jim Pete was even bringing that up during the Milwaukee game. Plus, he's always used to playing for Don Nelson who doesn't exactly teach great habbits. Maybe a guy like Adelman could get the best of Monta...at the worst he would be a fantastic scoring option on the wing opposite of Love/Pek down low.

That's a great answer - and I appreciate you filling me in, since I haven't watched much of Monta since the trade.
"Moving without the ball" is exactly the reason I think the Rip Hamilton could help here, even as he's breaking down. It wouldn't hurt either to have a guy that can get his own shot at the end of the game, if it was necessary.
You're changing my mind on Monta. I'll be curious to see how others break down his game.

Ellis can become a free agent this summer.Who is going to pay Monta? Who is going to pay the lux tax? Glen Taylor? Come on.

I agree that he's not the perfect fit, but it should be considered since Williams and Ridnour are not in Minnesota's long term plans. We know doesn't play defense and he has a desire to shoot long 2s. Really not the guy you want playing around Rubio. Essentially I think of him as a better version of Michael Beasley which unfortunately isn't saying much. There are a lot of guys I'd rather pursue before Ellis. To me this is a trade that I'll list as being plausible if no other trade seems appealing. I honestly doubt he will play through his player option, so it's a relatively low risk move.
edit: I just want to be clear that this is not an endorsement for the trade.

Re: Minnesota - Milwaukee
Milwaukee already doesn't know what to do with all their bigs, would they really be interested in another? They're paying Drew Gooden to be inactive, Ilyasova is flirting with Skiles' doghouse, and you have Sanders, Udoh, Mbah a Moute, Henson, plus established vets like Dalembert and Prizbilla. Those last two won't be back next year, SOMEONE will probably take a chance and trade for Gooden, but that frontcourt still will be crowded with promising young guys.
Also, who takes Monta's SG minutes for Milwaukee in this scenario?

He can but will he? I don't think he's going to get what he's making now again. It'd probably be safer not to opt into free agency this summer. He'll be up against Ginobli, Martin, Redick, Morrow, Brewer, Nick Young, Iggy could opt out, etc.

Very good point. Milwaukee might just be wanting to go ahead and start the rebuild...hoping they can make Derrick into a SF like us. It would probably have to be a 3 way since Milwaukee would be forced to use Dunleavy/Ridnour/Lamb at SG.

Re: Minnesota - Milwaukee
Monta is awful when not playing in a junky Nellie ball system. I'd happily do this deal but I'd then need to find a new second team. Dude has been on the decline for 5 years.

LOL! That made me chuckle. "Alright! At least my other team is on the rise, let's see what .. huh? They added Monta!?! %#$@$@!! Why does the Bucks management need to kill all my joy?!"
