ESPN is such a household name that you could be a 12 year old in britain and will sign up because it's a popular name like ESPN. And reddit is just a bunch of video game meme posting kids who will rage on you if you don't like their player. A picture of Big Baby in a wig will get more attention then a paragraph long break down of who is the best player in the league asking for opinions... Just an example ofcourse.

Yeah, there have always been a few knowledgeable guys posting there who really know their stuff, but the vast majority of the threads are just trolling topics. ESPN NBA General board has been a trolling board for years with little references to basketball sprinkled in from time to time. It was great for laughs for a long time but the most recent format change has made it damn near unbearable for everyone there, and it wouldn't surprise me if ESPN/Disney did this intentionally to dissuade people from posting there. Anyway, it's good to see that this place is pretty active and it's another great night to be a Heat fan. Yessir.

IMHO the general board on Realgm isn't any better:

* a bunch of kids fawning over their favorite player/team and switching positions on a certain player as soon as he goes on/off their team (Bynum was the best C in the NBA according to some LA fans, till he got traded. Then he became crap)

* a bunch of highschool kids/university students that seem to post only to inflate their post numbers (30+ posts per day is way too much, those kids should go to/pay attention in school)

* the mods have become a bunch of nazis that would ban you for pointing out someone's hypocrisy or for making a joke

* a ton of fanboys that spill over from the Knicks/Bulls/Lakers/Celtics boards and that drip homerism with every post

Any half-decent post is buried in a ton of noise and ridiculous statements.

And most of that is true for the most popular team forums (Knicks, Celtics, Bulls, Lakers). You can rarely have a decent discussion, because you risk being banned for trolling if you criticize their team/a player on their team.

I am actually quite glad that the Heat board is not too popular. I can read threads from start to end so I don't miss interesting, thoughtful posts.

Oh, and trying to filter out the noise by ignoring people is a job in itself. You can add dozens of names to the ignore list, and they still keep coming.

Realgm needs to highlight posts made by people you add to your friends list (opposite of ignore).
Another good idea would be to be able to only show the posts made by "friends" in a thread. You only get 1-2 pages to read (instead of 60) and all the noise is already filtered out.

me too! I miss Heat222 - is he lurking here by any chance?

Those were the good ol days when Heat vs Knicks was premium message board fare. Guys like heatfan and DJ were our board patriarchs. I wish we had some way of reconnecting because that was a great group of posters.

It seems like this board has lost some of it's old timers too as I don't see many members posting here that have join dates before summer 2010.
