The PELICANS?? WTF?
Maybe we can trade them Vesely. Vesely playing for the "pelicans" just sounds right...

I like it. Pelicans are terrifying birds.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

Better than Hornets. Better than Wizards. Not better than Bullets.
Shoulda taken Jazz back from Utah. No team based in Salt Lake City has any business calling itself Jazz.

And Utah is "the Beehive State." Really can't believe those two franchises never traded nicknames, it would have been perfect.

That's pretty goofy, but I got to be honest, I like it better than Wizards.

Re: OT: Hornets changing nickname to Pelicans
I would like to use this thread to renounce my previous vote backing/semi-inventing "The Justice" as the new name for the Wizards. I believe three or four of us have independently come to the name "DC Justice" as the coolest name possible to represent our city. But, I have since discovered a more menacing name. Just as New Jersey has embraced the Jersey Devil, and similar to my advocation for NYC teams called C.H.U.D. (canibalistic human underground dweller) and sewer crocodiles, I believe we need a mascot that represents the scariest animal to ever inhabit DC (not named Marion Barry) -- The toxic, intersex snakehead. You can throw a hermaphroditic in there to make it the DC T.H.I.S.

That's **** terrible. At least Wizards is no longer the worst name in the league...
Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

Re: OT: Hornets changing nickname to Pelicans
Are the Wizards gearing to change their name/logo? Once I saw the dc & the color change last season I figured it was a precursor to either a better logo (always hated the current one, even more so now w/ the colors) or a completely new name?
The Jazz are the Jazz, just like the Lakers are the Lakers. Neither make sense but they won't be changed. But the fact that NOLA has a chance to establish a true brand to the state & they go w/ Pelicans is just silly.
I think New Orleans Krewe would be a 100% better.

Re: OT: Hornets changing nickname to Pelicans
That was the rumor, especially once Abe Pollin died and Ted bought the team. I wouldn't be surprised if they changed the name back to the Bullets, but who knows.

DC Justice sounds like an MLS team name. Or the name of the cheerleaders for them....

Perhaps, but you have to understand the options we were dealing with: Sea dogs, Dragons, Wizards, Pelicans, Senators, Justice, or Underdeveloped, 5/8ths-Retarded Dangermice. I'm sticking with Snakeheads.
PS I'm turning off porn to search the web for an MLS cheerleader named Justice. If there isn't one, my new fantasy (and day off) will be ruined.

I was going to suggest snakeheads, too, ba. Snakeheads are the fish from hell according to that guy on River Monsters. They devour everything in water nearby and they can even move on land.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

At least it has something to do with New Orleans. Wizards sounds terrible and has no relation to the DC area.

Re: OT: Hornets changing nickname to Pelicans
I'm one of the few that like the Pelicans. Historic name in New Orleans, state bird, and offers the opportunity for the Charlotte Hornets to return as well. No complaints.
