I have no issue with him schematically, I think he's an offensive mastermind in terms of playcalling and offensive scheme. My only concern about him is whether he can be a great recruiter. We need a coach that can recruit. BB was pretty damn solid in that area.

He just has to be a closer, he had a big recruiting year at Pitt this season, but you can make an argument that Pitt is a much more fertile recruiting area.

He is a West Coast guy who has probably had better opportunities than UW and turned them down.

Petersen was the man behind Boise St.'s run. He came from Oregon under Bellotti.

Yeah, Petersen had them at the next level but the guy that went 53-11 in there (after 4 losses in his first season) after they sucked for a long time doesn't count?

I am more just asking, as I am assuming Peterson is much better. But it is a thought.

Worgull was just on WSSP.

Said he thinks it's Chryst's job if he wants it. Also mentioned Doeren, Ash and Charlie Strong.

Didn't confirm or deny that Petersen was in Madison. Just said it would be a "big splash."

Said a month from now if he had to guess that Alvarez will promote from within.

Isn't Boise's offense more of a spread? Seems like it might be difficult to make that transition with WI's current talent and not many teams have been successful with the spread in the Big Ten. Just from a "name" standpoint, Petersen would be a grand slam.

Boise runs a pro style offense. They do throw a lot, but it's not a full spread.

Doeren, Ash, or Strong would be meh to me. Not overly pissed, but not really excited either. Of those three, I'd take Strong.

That may be an issue. But Canada ran a spread too.

I could see Petersen leaving. Seems like the luster of Boise State has died a bit the last couple of years. Now might be the time for him to leave.

Doeren not a target.

Former Wisconsin defensive coordinator Dave Doeren isn't a candidate to return as the Badgers' next head coach, a source close to Doeren told ESPN.com on Wednesday morning.

NC State hired Doeren as its head coach Saturday, the day after he led Northern Illinois to its second consecutive Mid-American Conference championship. Doeren went 23-4 in two seasons at NIU after serving as a Badgers assistant from 2006-2010, the last three seasons as defensive coordinator.

Doeren is on the road recruiting for NC State and has no intentions of leaving the job.

The interesting question here is whether Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez should have reached out to Doeren before Doeren accepted the NC State job. Alvarez reportedly knew about Bret Bielema's potential departure for several weeks, although he said in a statement Tuesday night that he was "very surprised" when Bielema took the Arkansas job.

With Doeren out of the mix and Pitt coach Paul Chryst, the former Wisconsin offensive coordinator, affirming his commitment to the Panthers, it will be interesting to see where Wisconsin's search turns next.

Keep an eye on two NFL assistants who played at Wisconsin: Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and Jacksonville Jaguars defensive coordinator/assistant head coach Mel Tucker.

I would hate a Bevell hire. It would be due to UW ties only.

Jeff Potrykus ‏@jaypo1961
Been told P.Chryst will be #Badgers No. 1 choice but name to keep on radar: Al Golden of Miami. Hmmm.

If Alvarez knew for "several weeks" you would think he would have reached out to Chryst awhile ago to at least feel him out. Really hard to tell what he's thinking. He's done this once before and he hand picked BB well before stepping aside.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Apparently, Chryst's Pitt buyout is $6M.
