I think it's a smart move for Wisconsin to avoid the cliche of hiring a "search firm." They cost millions and tend to have mixed results at best. Just let Barry find a guy in the next couple of weeks and save the millions you'd give to a firm.

I'd say my rank as of right now in terms of people even loosely mentioned is:

1. Petersen
2. Tucker
3. Chryst
4. Golden
5. Ash
6. Bevell

Probably missing a few.

I'd put Tressel at the top of the list no matter how unlikely it is. And everyone who mentions Lance Leipold needs to STFU. The Badgers are not going to hire a guy who's top experience is D-III.

Robbie Neiswanger ‏@NWARobbie
Have new Arkansas coach Bret Bielema's letter of agreement in hand. It's actually a 6-year deal worth $3.2 million annually.

As of November 21, the top 25 paid coaches.

1. Nick Saban, Alabama, SEC, $5,476,738
2. Mack Brown, Texas, Big 12, $5,353,750
3. Bob Stoops, Oklahoma, Big 12, $4,550,000
4. Urban Meyer, Ohio State, Big Ten, $4,300,000
5. Les Miles, LSU, SEC, $3,856,417
6. Kirk Ferentz, Iowa, Big Ten, $3,835,000
7. Steve Spurrier, South Carolina, SEC, $3,585,000
8. Gene Chizik, Auburn, SEC, $3,577,500
9. Chip Kelly, Oregon, Pac-12, $3,500,000
10. Gary Patterson, TCU, Big 12, $3,467,926
11. Mike Gundy, Oklahoma State, Big 12, $3,275,000
12. Brady Hoke, Michigan, Big Ten, $3,046,120
13. Todd Graham, Arizona State, Pac-12, $3,000,000
14. Mark Richt, Georgia, SEC, $2,925,340
15. Bo Pelini, Nebraska, Big Ten, $2,875,000
16. Jimbo Fisher, Florida State, ACC, $2,750,000
17. Gary Pinkel, Missouri, SEC, $2,700,000
18. Bret Bielema, Wisconsin, Big Ten, $2,640,140
19. Dan Mullen, Mississippi State, SEC, $2,600,000
19. Jed Tedford, California, Pac-12, $2,600,000
21. Mike London, Virginia, ACC, $2,556,460
22. Charlie Weis, Kansas, Big 12, $2,500,000
23. Will Muschamp, Florida, SEC, $2,474,500
24. Larry Fedora, North Carolina, ACC, $2,448,605
25. Paul Johnson, Georgia Tech, ACC, $2,445,700

So BB will be about the 12th highest paid coach in the country.

Yeah, I'd have Tressel at the top as well, but I don't even consider it a 1% chance of happening.

You can't argue Tressel's success and you need to be a good coach to actually nurture the talent...but...like I said, I'm all for Tressel if the state of Ohio(and Pennsylvania and Michigan) can move a few hundred miles west as well as their donors. Then Tressel would be a lock.

I think Tressel would be good anywhere. But we are not going to follow up on BB with a guy with any baggage whatsoever.

One and two are interchangeable for me. The Jags' players seem to like Tucker a lot and he has consistently had great defense there when they weren't massively injured or talent depleted.

Rittenberg/Bennett ‏@ESPN_BigTen
Bielema's low buyout from Wisconsin, relatively small salary increase at Arkansas definitely raise some questions about his happiness at UW

Bill Michaels won't STFU about Lance Leipold right now.

Yeah, it seemed like a sure money grab from when I first heard the news.

There were a lot of good points from many of the articles.
-Problem with low assistant coach salaries.
-Barry's shadow.
-Take on a challenge.
-It may be best to leave at your ceiling before you go the way of Ferentz.
-SEC
-He's young.
-There is a pay increase.

I hope the Badger program gets on without him but not a bad move. Maybe BB was a potential lifer at UW and they win 3 Rose Bowls and lose a National Championship and/or win a few playoff games over his next 20 years. Or maybe the team slowly fizzles out and his luster is completely gone by 2018.

There was also a rumor that he wants to get back to Iowa, and waiting out the next 2-3 years at Arkansas may be the way to do it.

I pretty much agree with this. I'll take anyone of the top 3 and I definitely agree with Bevell being at the bottom.

I want Chryst of Tressel, make a splash. This could be an unexpected opportunity to take the program's exposure to whole new level nationally. Take advantage.

Now instead of being in Barry's shadow he can be in LSU and Alabama's shadow. :P

Let's not forget they have had 5 losses and a weak offense after Chryst and a number of other offensive assistants left. I have maintained that Chryst was the most important coach and the reason they won.

I agree but there was heat on Barry when he hired BB for not going the "proper route". I know there are certain rules that are suppose to be followed at UW when hiring. But they can't waste time on this, we need a new coach in ASAP.

Now I"m hearing talk of Barry coaching a year or two (like Synder sort of), bringing in someone like Rudolph as next in line and grooming him to take over. I don't like that at all.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Dan Wolken at USA Today says coaching Wisconsin is not a top 3 job in big ten. Who is then? I'd say its Ohio State, Michigan, then Wisconsin.

O'Brien has done such a good job in his first year at PSU that it may continue to be an elite program/job in the Big Ten. Probably have to include Nebraska in that discussion as well.
