Yep. You don't need to play defense now the win the MVP.

Now, hmmmm

Nash has two MVPs and Dirk has one. They have a defensive player of the year award for a reason.

Except this season the reigning MVP can do it on both sides of the floor so its different to back then.

In the event that the Knicks lose to the Bobcats tonight, it should be noted that a Durant led Thunder team was beating this Bobcats team 79-25 midway through the 3rd quarter a week ago

Yep because 27/9/5/2/2 65TS% just walks through the door every day.

Leading the NBA in Offensive AND Defensive win shares, something that's only been done twice in the past 25 years, and his WSp48 ranks 15th all time. Not to mention his team is 15-4 and has BY FAR the best SRS in the league. Finally Durant has an on/off of +23.4 which is far and away the best in the league.

his on/off is not by far the best in the league lol. hell kobe is at +24.0 right now, also its a pretty small sample size for all these numbers. i mean chris paul's on/off right now is -0.8. do you think chris paul makes his team worse?

Kobe is not at 24.0. Check BBall reference. His is identical to MWP

Every single player on the Thunder, including Westbrook, have a positive off excluding Durant. This means the Thunder are still winning games, even with them off the court. WIthout Durant? The Thunder are -7.5 points per 48. With him they're +14.8

The Knicks, as they are right now, aren't a playoff team without Melo.

I still think Duncan deserves it so far just based off winning, his stats and age..

This is considered baiting. This is your only warning.

EDIT: Wait...how many warnings do you already have against your record? Wow.

So basically a prime Carmelo owned a 18-20 year old kid. Congrats.

guys saying since Durant's 2nd year he's been better than Carmelo well he's only beat him 1 time head to head and has been outplayed every game

So let me get this straight. You think Deron Williams>Chris Paul?

er what.

this still shows kobe as having a huge on/off right now, very comparable to durants, which shows that hes not "far and away" the best in the league.

also points per 100 isnt the same as bball reference ortg so of course the numbers are different. still doesnt make them any less valid.

82games isn't updated and Kobe's is .4 less than MWP's. The Lakers are the only team with this type of discrepancy and it's due to the rotations.

thats false. 82 games was last updated on 12/03 while bball reference was updated on the 4th.

also its a discrepancy because its early in the season and the sample size is almost meaningless honestly.

You can argue Melo is more deserving of the MVP. Thats fine and if thats your opinion you aren't alone. Carmelo is the best player on the team with the best record in the East and its December. Obviously he's in the discussion.

But saying Carmelo is a better player than Durant and only backing that up by showing win loss records against each other from 4 or 5 years ago is just illogical and stupid, especially in an MVP thread.

no it isn't, the fact that someone said since Durant's 2nd year he's owned Carmelo has been proven otherwise

I personally think Carmelo is better than Durant regardless of what anyone says nothing can change my mind on that

Durant is the Wests MVP so far but Melo and Lebron both have strong cases as well. Even Duncan too.

Okc's schedule has not been too bad despite playing a lot of games so far. Durants TOs are significantly higher when facing the good defensive teams who can also force TOs well against stars.

Clippers - 6 TOs
Grizzlies - 5 TOs
Hawks - 6 TOs
Bulls - 6 TOs

His #s and especially advanced stats have been really good lately but he's gonna start cooling down against the better teams and defenses. Lebron OTOH has been consistent against the top teams but his team hasnt played as much and have a worse record.

Personally I say Westbrook=Bosh this year and Ray=Martin. Wade has been really bad I think Ibaka has outplayed him so far so its close in their casts this year. Durant has been better than Lebron defensively this year and is definitely better than Melo. Lebron is still the best of the 3 offensively but Durant can close in.

Durant hasn't turned the ball over more than three times since the Clippers game. He's at 3.3 per game on the year, hardly worthy of concern.

And no, LeBron is not a better offensive player than Durant.

I don't know if anyone mentioned this already but Durant and Lebron won players of the month for the first month of the season. Those two are your leaders for the MVP.
