As long as it isn't Bevell or Childress , that's my mind set at this point. Would absolutely love Tucker or Petersen, wouldn't mind Golden.

Not trying to bring up Minnesota again, but Golden was at the top of my wish list when the Gophers were looking for a new head coach. He turned around a horrible program at Temple and is an extremely classy guy. He'd be a great hire for Wisconsin. I bet he'd like to get outta the Miami situation too.

Barry said that the candidate doesn't need to have Wisconsin ties, so I don't think those guys (Bevell and Chilly) will really be in the running.

The thing I do like about Golden is his recruiting ties in the south.

I think Alvarez is smart enough not to cause fan mutiny with a Chilly hire. I think most casual fans won't mind Bevell, so hopefully he just remains out as well.

Barry Alvarez on @dpshow: "I haven't talked to Chris (Petersen), he seems locked in Boise. I may reach out and see if he's interested."

Not really related but apparently Bobby Petrino has reached out to Arkansas State about coaching. Hahaha

Huge bummer about Chryst and Tucker if true.

Still not sure how I feel about Golden. Seems like a pretty fiery guy who could do well recruiting.

Holy **** Barry Alvarez is amazing. Lulz at some of those quotes. I hope he isn't planning on coaching a year and grooming his next guy from within like we've heard mentioned here. I dbout it, but I feel like this is the chance to make a big move and possibly make a leap and cement the program in upper echelon territory. I'd say it's time to open up the wallet and make Peterson an offer he can't turn down. I believe it can be sold. Yeah he has it made in Boise and he's a west coast guy. But with the right man in place there's no question UW is a higher ceiling job than Boise. We'll always have WI on lock for recruiting and he might be able to up our influence on the west coast more. Last years team should be the model for a national championship and it's doable in WI. Strong, deep teams with an amazing OL and 3 good RBs are a given. Recruit a stud QB and a few studs on def and you're there.

The right think for UW to do in light of the talk about underpaying assistants is to step their game up and pay some high quality coaches right now.

The thing that concerns me is the quote about having an interview 5 minutes after hearing from BB about leaving. Would that imply he interviewed someone from within? My wish list is Petersen, by far. Then a drop to Tucker, Chryst, Golden. Then a huge drop to in house guys.

Barry already said his return to coaching is strictly a one game deal, so you don't have to worry about him coming back and grooming a guy.

With all this grooming of guys talk and Barry bringing coaches up to his hotel room, I'm starting to get a little concerned here.

You all do know that Petersen already makes more than Bielema LEFT FOR right? Especially if Barry hasn't talked to him yet, it seems like more than a stretch.

I'll be ticked if Tucker doesn't even get an interview.

That's my point, open up the wallet. Your coach just left for a job that shouldnt be considered better because it offered him more money, and then cited your inability to pay assistants as a reason for leaving. That's a slap in the face and this is a turning point. If you hire cheaply from within that doesn't look good in my opinion. A guy like Petersen is worth opening up the wallet for.

I actually think Wisconsin is a pretty good job b/c you have a solid program, facilities, etc and really winning Rose Bowls is the biggest demand. There isn't a National Championship or bust mentality. The only problem is Urb & Ohio State will be in your way every year now.

I don't think there is any chance of Childress. He is disliked very much in this State. Bevell I could see getting a courtesy interview but not taken really serious. I think Peterson would be their top choice and then Al Golden. I thought he said he's looking for head coaching experience so that would hurt Tucker's chances.

I know Barry said he didn't feel betrayed but did make note that he was blind sided, shocked no one said anything, etc. And Bielema kinda had a jab, probably more to fans/media, about UW will maybe win the Rose Bowl now. Obviously joking, but don't think it 100% was.

I have my doubts about assistant pay being a real problem. Chryst took half the staff with him (the good half imo) and so everyone that stuck around got a big bump in pay. Did you really want to pay 2 substandard Def Coor DC money? They should be on the low end of the pay scale since they were all new to their roles.

And I don't know what you get if you back the truck up for Petersen. He walked into a made program with no real direct competition. If you are going to pay him top 10 money (like he is already making) why not just pay Bielema?
