I've heard a few folks in the last few days claim that Petersen is waiting for the Oregon job to open up after Chip Kelly makes a move to the NFL. I'd be concerned that Petersen would jump from Wisco if that opened up in the near future.

Yeah, that would be a concern since he has ties to Oregon. I wonder if USC would go after him too if Kiffin continues to underachieve.

It would also be interesting to see Petersen's recruiting at Wisconsin. Boise is pretty much the complete opposite of Wisconsin. At Boise he never has to worry about academic standards, the school is a glorified community college, but then on the other hand you'd think he'd be able to go after more highly touted kids since he'd be coaching at an AQ school.

Not sure if serious.

Simple math.

I don't know how much authority Barry has as far as salary. Obviously as AD he has a lot of power but I'm not sure he can just open up the check book
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

But he sure has the ear of the powers that be that do have the authority to sign off. There's no way they can't afford it, they'll probably just go the cheap route anyways though.

Keep an eye on ND Defensive Coordinator Bob Diaco.

Yep, I could see Tucker, Golden, and Diaco being the top 3 (in whatever order) right now, honestly.

Diaco has been on my short-list from the start. Makes a ton of sense and I would love it. Golden is growing on me and I love the idea of Tucker as well.

Ralph D. Brown II ‏@_Rbrown
Notre Dame defensive coordinator Bob Diaco is said to be in the mix for the Wisconsin job. His #ND defense is no.1 in points allowed.

I am not really into hiring any assistants, I would have hoped this program would be far enough along where you could have hired a quality head coach on some level. Diaco is a hot name, but not splashy and not proven as a head coach. My guess is many will be disappointed with whoever is brought in at first, will lose a number of recruits out of this current class and will have pressure on himself right away. this is definitely NOT a rebuilding situation. Diaco's o-Coordinator's decision will be huge, since he has nothing to do with developing QB's.

I don't know why you have to bring in a guy that has already been a head coach. Personally, all I care about is that he's smart and he's hungry. That entails many current assistants.

Probably a decent chance Canada would just stay on. Barry mentioned how important he thinks continuity is and I bet he could convince Diaco to keep Canada.

personally not a Canada guy, but guessing any coach coming in whether a current assistant or not will want to bring his guys.

I want to bring in a guy who is smart, detail oriented, and proven under fire....just because a guy is having a good year at Notre Dame coaching defense does not tell me he is the type of guy who could slide in a be a great head coach and recruiter.

And it doesn't mean he can't. I want the best candidate. I don't care if he's a head or assistant coach. Hell, the best candidate could easily be an assistant.

I'd really prefer an offensive minded coach if at all possible.

Barry was only an assistant before getting the UW job, so was Bielema. Chryst had never been a head coach before Pitt hired him. Chip Kelly had never been a head coach before getting the Oregon job. MSU was the first head coaching job for Saban and Les Miles was a career assistant before Oklahoma St hired him.

All that matters is if Alvarez hires the right guy, regardless if the guy has already been a head coach or not.
