Mark Sanchez

Post#1 » by inquisitive » Mon Dec 3, 2012 12:28 am

He is just awful. What do you guys think will happen to him this offseason? traded? cut? I somehow think he will be out of the NFL in a couple of years. He just doesn't seem like NFL QB material.

Managment was on on one when they handed out that lucrative contract. He sucks but he'll probably still be their starter next season because they've invested so much into him.

He is due 8.3 million next year so I highly doubt he is going anywhere. It is a combination of many things regarding Sanchez, first off the obvious is that he is not that good, the rest includes his coaching sucks, he really does not have the greatest weapons around him, and he plays for one of the biggest media markest in the sporting world. He needs a change of scenery, where he actually has good coaching, good talent around him and where he will not have to face so much pressure.

I think you need to brush up on your definition of 'overrated'.

I just assumed he was going to be cut this offseason but that contract...wow.

Semi-related thought, but do you think the fact that the Jets basically can't get rid of Sanchez this offseason buys Rex Ryan another year?

He is terrible. Never understood the hype he got. I guess because he was hispanic, from LA, and playing in New York City. But he is one of the worst QBs I've ever seen(and being a Skins fan I've seen some awful QBs).

He'll land somewhere next year, probably as a backup. Couple years after that he'll be out of the league.
Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

I think Mike Tannenbaum is going to be axed first and Rex is going to get another season to prove himself, deserving or not. McElroy will probably be given the rest of the season as an audition and then the Jets will move from there. If I'm the new Jets GM, I'm doing my best to make sure Sanchez isn't the #1 QB coming into training camp, even if that means he's getting 8.3m to hold a clipboard next season.

I can't see them spending $8.3 mil for him to sit on the bench the entire season, unless McElroy turns out to be a legitimate professional QB.

I think he gets another year next year, because I doubt they can move him with his big contract and lack of any actual skills.

Bottom line? The Ryan family has never known offense.

He's had multiple turnovers in all but one or two games this season. Rex Ryan is by no means a offensive mastermind, but the poor decision making falls on Sanchez.

I'm not saying that the Jets should give up on him, but he's never going to live up to the expectations that come along with being drafted 5th overall. Just for the record I always thought he was overrated coming out of college anyway.

He's starting again per Rex. This is like God's gift to NFL writers like myself, the story that keeps on giving.

For the record, I had The Sanchize as my #1 QB in that draft. It will never happen for him in New York, and I'm growing less optimistic it will happen anywhere else for him by the week. I thought Brian Billick's analogy of Joey Harrington is brilliant and spot-on.

the Jets should go out in style this season and run a college football offense with Tebow.

I can't fathom Rex's thought process here. Not only does sticking with Sanchez not make sense as a football decision, he's actively going against the wishes of the owner to remain on a sinking ship with Tannenbaum and Sparano. Is he trying to get fired?

THATS EXACTLY IT!

He has this loyalty thing going with his coaching staff! Brought in a new OC who is the same as the old one! Because he was a Parcells guy, from what i read. And will sell a player under the bus in a minute to protect a coach! That is the incorrect philosophy. THIS IS A PLAYERs LEAGUE!

You build the players up in a system that will work for them, if it doesnt, you gotta get rid of the coach and bring in a hire that will produce results. A power running team, how original is that?! That stuff gets figured out after a coupla seasons, and it does not win the chip. Why do you think Atlanta has changed it up this year, and has been kicked out early in the playoffs each year?

You must bring in an offensive minded coach that will spread the field, make checks and recognition reads, ala peyton manning - tom brady - Drew brees - Aaron rodgers and hire accordingly. Why was Sparano hired? Due to his success in miami??

Again, the Ryan family knows zero about offense, zero about hiring offensively, zero about an offensive philosophy, zero about building an offensive minded team. Because he hasnt figured it out yet as a defensive coach . . . THE RULES HAVE TOTALLY CHANGED TO SWING TO THE OFFENSE's FAVOR! Yet, we still get the ground and pound . . .

Bottom line, I think he's starting Sanchez because he basically has to. They can't get rid of him this offseason, and if they bench him he's a $9M boat anchor sitting on their bench. Tragically the best answer might just be to let him keep plugging away and hope he can improve or recover some of his lost confidence.

Just a wild thought...

New York Jets at Jacksonville Jaguars: Kudos to Jets coach Rex Ryan for taking my advice regarding his QB problem. As I laid out in this week’s third cent:

“Having said that, I think Rex Ryan goes back to The Sanchize, if only to cement the gig for McElroy as Sanchez bombs once again and the youngsters rides in to the rescue with relative competency.”

That’s exactly what Ryan has done, naming The Sanchize the starter, albeit quite tepidly. Many believe the move was forced upon him, but I see what he’s doing. Rex Ryan is playing up how much he wants Sanchez to build expectations, which makes it all the easier to yank him when he’s 3-for-10 for 14 yards and an INT and the Jets are losing 7-0. The stage will be perfectly set for Greg McElroy astride his white horse to come in and engineer another epic comeback win over a woefully inept opponent. The Jets win 13-10 and the Big Apple goes gaga over McElroy. Rex Ryan, you sir are pulling off a cunning stunt! Jets 13, Jaguars 10
