Would be nice to have Bobby Phills' jersey hanging where it belongs..

Forbes: When New Orleans Becomes the Pelicans, Charlotte Should not Revert Back to Hornets name

But the Charlotte Bobcats are much too new for any historical name resurgence. The Bobcats were an expansion team in 2004. On top of being less than a decade old, they have already changed their color scheme and team logos (before the start of this season) and they’ve only finished above .500 once, in 2009-10. Sometimes becoming a good (or at least decent) ball team takes time. Replacing the team name and logos with a team from the past won’t make you any better.
Unless you can get Muggsy Bogues to come back, too.

The writer couldn't even get our record last year right. He seems to like the New Orleans name change since the Pelicans are Louisianas state bird and have atleast a little historic significance but discounts the Hornets coming back to Charlotte even though that name has more historic significance to us than some stupid state bird.

Latest Bonnell Article on the likely name change.

"The team has prepared, though. A marketing study of Charlotte the team commissioned during the summer of 2010, couldn’t ask specific questions about the Hornets, but did poll Charlotteans on the name “Bobcats.”

The results might surprise you.

According to chief sales and marketing officer Pete Guelli, more than 60 percent of those polled liked the name Bobcats; about 20 percent advocated a name change."

Considering it was 2010 and the Hornets werent mentioned in the poll and were not a viable possibility that was even rumored at the time, the results dont surprise me at all. I know I'd take Bobcats all day long over the Flight and Dragons.

However, throw the Hornets into the mix as we've seen with more than one Observer poll during the past year and the votes in favor are always 85%+. Yes, the Observer polls are obviously informal and lacking in terms of controls, etc. but the overwhelming Ye results dwarfing the Ne's and overwhelming support in the comments sections are more than enough to tell anybody which direction the wind is blowing.

Dragons is a straight up cheesy name (as is Bobcats for that matter). I liked Flight though. That would be pretty cool, particularly when we had a pair of high-flyers in Wallace and J-Rich.

Rumors circulating that the Pelicans name is being voted on today.

That writer is obviously unaware of the historical significance of the name Hornets. He thinks we just want back the glory days of Charlotte Hornet's basketball.

Let's be serious here, there aren't many people who want the Hornets back due to it' historical significance. They either hate/don't like the Bobcats or miss the days when the Hornets were here and good.

You really think all of these people are going, "Man I wish we could get the Hornets name back! I really miss having that connection to the Revolutionary War!" ?

... no, they aren't.

I somewhat agree but, I like the historical significance as well.... The Hornets/ Hornets Nest represent Charlotte it began at the Revolutionary war but, it has continued and is part of Charlotte in so many ways now.

The Police Shield, The Flag, Hornets Nest Park, Hornets Nest Elementary, The Boy Scout Logo, The highest honor in Mecklenburg county is called the "Order of the Hornet"award, The County Seal, etc, etc

The Sports History
Charlotte Hornets- Baseball Team
Charlotte Hornets World League Football Team
Charlotte Hornets - NBA Team

I want the Hornets name to come home because to me a Hornet represents Charlotte. A Bobcat represents Bob Johnson's ego, not my home.

I also wanted to post some of the jersey/court designs that a graphic designer in New Orleans did for the Charlotte Hornets Movement... pretty good stuff.

I'm fine with either name, but if they are going to do it I wish they would go ahead and commit to it as I find that the people at bringbackthebuzz or whatever are typically annoying as hell.
