Bielema told DP a factor was the amount of money he could pay assistants at Arkansas as opposed to Wisconsin.

Alvarez said Thursday UW's pay scale is fair.

"As an athletic director, I have to make decisions," he said. "I know what people are making. And every time someone has a hint they may take another job, it's not prudent to jump and throw a pile of money at them.

"We're more than competitive. And not only that, we have a great place. It's a wonderful university. It's a great place to live.

"We have new facilities coming. People want to work here. The quality of life here is top-notch.

"So we can get good assistants here. We have had good assistants here. We'll continue to have good assistants here, and we'll have stability here."

"Bret used my game plan to win," Alvarez said. "The coach that I will hire will be someone that will have to understand who we are, how we go about our business. I don't look to change a whole lot in how we operate things here.

"The person that I'll put in place will be someone that cares about kids, someone that understands Wisconsin and will be a good fit for us."

I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Bret Bielema said that the salaries for his assistant coaches will double or more than double at Arkansas, compared to Wisconsin.

REPORT: Chilly wants the job.

http://tracking.si.com/2012/12/07/brad- ... t=cf_t2_a6

Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator and former Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress is “intrigued” by Wisconsin’s head-coaching job and is an option for the position, CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reported on Thursday.

The job opened up on Wednesday, when Bret Bielema bolted for the head job at Arkansas.

For eight seasons in the 1990s, Childress was a member of the coaching staff of Wisconsin Athletic Director Barry Alvarez, who will coach the Badgers in the Rose Bowl next month.

During his five seasons as Wisconsin’s offensive coordinator, Childress earned praise for his work with Heisman Trophy-winning running back Ron Dayne. He left the school in 1999 to coach the quarterbacks with the Philadelphia Eagles, and he subsequently spent three seasons as their offensive coordinator.

Childress moved on to spend parts of five seasons as the Vikings head coach, where he had some success but was ultimately fired 10 games into the 2010 season.

Chilly may get a courtesy interview but no way in hell he gets the job.

Maybe Chilly would bring Favre in as the OC. That would be epic.

Yeah, this seemed to be the sentiment over on Buckyville. I think, whether legit or not, it may explain why the assistants keep leaving over some of the theories on here.

Listened to some of the Bielema interview on ESPN. Not a fan of him essentially calling Wisconsin cheap. Even if it's true, there has to be something else to offer up when telling people why you left.

I still don't get why Arkansas can pay their assistants twice as much. Is it because people in Arkansas don't have an NFL team to root for and spend money on?

Because college football is all they care about so the team has a blank check.

Big1070 AM. reports Chris Peteresen will be interviewed by Barry Alvarez on Monday. I believe it. Lucas & Lepay are as connected as anyone.

Adam Hoge ‏@AdamHogeCBS

Source tells me Chris Peterson, Darrell Bevell, Mel Tucker and Al Golden are all "legit candidates" for the #Badgers job. Still early.

If we hire Bevell then we can get Brooks Bollinger ready to become the next coach after he gets fired. And then Stocco after Bollinger gets fired.

It'll be hilarious if after all these coaching changes, Wisconsin and the B1G end up landing easily the top guy on the market. Still think the possibility is remote.
