hyperbole 5 year 80 million

Just cuz you have no idea what a max contract is or how the perimeters of a max deal works from player to player doesn't mean it's hyperbole.

It's also 5/75 and not 5/80.

I'm not sure he'll understand what you mean. There's a chance he thinks the word Hyperbole means "Nice try."

As a pedantry fan, let me interject. Technically we traded for Boozer - Utah wanted us to because it created them a trade exception which let them get Al Jeff. As such, he was signed via Bird rights. As such, he was eligible for 10.5% raises and a six year contract. As a result, the maximum he could have signed for was six years and $123,658,088. Over five years, it would have been $98,763,225. He ended up getting exactly $75 million. So he basically got three quarters of the max, or, if you'd prefer the six year version, 60.65% of it.

The max he could have gotten had we signed him outright and thus not used Bird rights would have been five years and $93,865,875. $75 million is basically four fifths of that.

Also note: fans of teams might not want their teams to want Boozer, and they may well be right on that. Buuuuuuuuuut, that's just not how it works........

Why would the Magic want Boozer? Well for starters, If Boozer was on the Magic, he would be their best player. Lets just pretend that theyre considering taking Booz straight up with their TPE. If thats the case, then what harm can it exactly do to Orlando? This transaction would cost them zero players, zero picks, zero assets. What star player or up-and-comers minutes would he be eating into? Enlighten me. The only thing he essentially costs is capspace, What marquee free agents are even available to begin with? and what marquee free agents have Orlando even remotely on their radar? How is that big new arena selling with zero brand names on their roster?

need more?

The magic only want Boozer if he comes with picks. No picks, no Boozer.

I agree, and hope/think that's what most of us assume.

I bet the Magic (if they are indeed scouting Boozer or whatever) are interested in him for next year, where (1) they can use our pick to get whatever they specifically want on draft night..or not (2) obviously, his financial burden is not so high

People will want this guy to some extent...as he scores the ball, rebounds....and aging is not the biggest issue since he's not athleticism reliant.

People will not want to give us anything for Boozer, but getting a year off the books without amnesty is likely going to be doable one day.

So hypothetically are we trading Boozer & picks just for TPE, or players, or what?

Depends, who would Chicago want from the Magic?

Denver wants to consolidate - too many 6'6 6'8 players on the roster, they don't particularly like Boozer or Pau, but Boozer's contract is less expensive and Chicago can offer draft picks, which is what can entice Denver

The Bulls don't need to give away draft picks to move Boozer. They can bite the bullet for this season only and give him to Detroit for expirings of Maggette and Maxiel. Detroit could certainly use Boozer. Obviously, Maggette and Maxiel don't turn the Bulls into world beaters, but it's just one season and most seem to have written the Bulls off for this year anyway.

Detroit just gave away a possible lottery pick to get Maggette's expiring in the first place. They're not now going to use it to take on salary.

It would make sense if they didn't have Kenneth Faried, who's got so much potential and is already a better player than Boozer IMO

I just don't see them paying for Boozer with Faried/Iggy/Galo and the talented starting SF/PF crew they already have.
:o LeBron is 0-7 in game winning/tying FGs in the finals. And is 20/116 or 17% in game winning/tying FGs in the 4th/OT for his career. That's historically bad :o

Why do the Magic have any interest in this?

There's no point in spending assets to get rid of Boozer. Just amensty him if you need to dump him. But right now, frankly, the Bulls need Boozer - Taj isn't nearly good enough to start at PF on this team - his offense is putrid right now, and was never better than mediocre.

I would have rather not signed Taj and used the money on Mirotic
