With this draft it does not have any star power maybe outside of bazz but even with him he is not a number ne overall guy right now. If I was raps losing the pick this year is not bad but next year is the year not just with wiggins and Parker but althroughout there are great players the Harrison twins James young with randle and vonleh makes that class crazy good. Getting a pick within the lottery in the 2014 draft is what you want obviously you'd like to have the number one but being in the top ten or five gaurntees you a very good player.

If that's the case I'm taking Noel or Muhammad and running happily to the bank to give them their first rookie cheque.

Re: 2012/13 Toronto Raptors Draft Thread
Doesn't fit our team, but keep your eye on Ben McLemore for players who can possibly go top 5. He has elite physical tools for a SG (athleticism, size, length) and should be a 3pt shooter in the NBA + being arguably the star of another great Jayhawks team will get him the pub. Only thing is that he's older than the other freshman (20 next February) because he was ineligible last year
No extended clips of him but here's a pretty impressive dunk. Basically if you're one of these guys and you hit 3s you usually do well in the draft

Ben is another one of those guys with everything to offer, besides a good enough handle. To me having a shooting guard who can handle the rock is essential because he needs that break down ability when things get rough. More often than not your point guard or shooting guard will have to create something during end of game situations or late clock scenarios, and without a good enough handle he'll struggle to succeed at the highest level of guards.

Ford posted that Poythress, Len, Gobert are gaining #1 pick momentum.
I think Len takes over the #1 ranking soon

Lol I was on the Poythress bandwagon since July. I've been disappointed by my man Harrow doe.

I gotta check this Len kid out in a game. But I can see why Gobert is ranked so high, his length is off the charts but I've never seen him play.

Michigan looks like a really good team. Glenn Robinson's son is one to keep an eye on along with Trey Burke of course. I'm not sold on Hardaway Jr. or McGrary yet.

Kentucky's Archie Goodwin DX profile:
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Arc ... dwin-6432/
This guy is the equivalent of a 5-tool prospect in baseball. Watch OKC end up with him with our pick...I'm going to be pissed. He's got a lot of potential man. It's all there. He's a 2 who is playing some PG right now in Kentucky. 6'5'', 6'10'' wingspan, good athleticism, NBA ready body.
Current stats (7 gms):
16.4 PPG (on 47 FG%), 5.6 RPG, 4.6 APG 3.4 TOs (a little high), and averages 8.6 FTAs (!) per game, albeit shoots just 66% from the stripe.

I think nik stauskas can become this year a second round maybe get into first round type of guy but in Michigan they play him at the three when he is a two guard. I think he will stay at Michigan for long time maybe even a four full years and he will be a guy down the road who could become solid prospect. No elite prospects or guys that deserved the number one overall distinction but there will be guys who will be solid players in the eagle just not a draft where you care for a lottery pick.

This is a pretty good game to watch if you want to watch prospects, possibly 4 of the top 5-7 picks (Len, Goodwin, Noel, Poythress), but particularly Len and Goodwin

Re: 2012/13 Toronto Raptors Draft Thread
Noel looks pretty solid today, 7 points, 9 reb, 7 blks and 1 stl. He's very raw offensively, limited to putbacks, transition dunk and he needs work on his post up game. However, it's his defense that makes the difference, he's such a defensive game changer, challenge every shot, dives for the ball, very very active, a ball thief for a man his size, extremely good timing and anticipation on his shotblocking ability, I can see why Anthony Davis said Noel is a better shotblocker, I won't say he's better but he provides good balance of weak side shotblocking presence, and man-to-man shotblocking ability. He's also pretty good at using his body to box out on the glass.
Definitely a defensive game-changer, I won't be sad if we draft 2nd/3rd and getting him. He provides that high energy defense that Casey likes at the PF. He's a very good defensive pairing w/ Jonas and we can just tank another year for a franchise SF, think about it, a Wiggins/Noel/Val OR a Parker/Noel/Val. That's a good young foundation there.
Goodwins is pretty solid too but he puts his head down when he drives, doesn't show much passing instincts when he dribble drives, and not a factor on the defensive end. Poythress is very mobile, knows how to score without the ball, attacks the paint w/ aggressiveness, powers his way through using his strength, however he's not a good ball handler nor a good slasher, but he's an improving long range shooter, attacks the glass and has good solid defensive stance and footwork.
Can't wait to see Shabazz at 5 today.

One thing a Raps GM should never do is trade a 1st rounder. I feel like it's the reason why we watch basketball at this point. To hope and dream on young players coming up. It's almost better than watching the Raptors because we are living in this la-la fantasy land about the future. It's like a euphoria.
And now even that is gone.

frederick you think Poythress looks like Paul George? Neither are excellent ball-handlers, but have crazy length at SF and can shoot the long ball.

The more this draft gets labelled a no superstar one, the more it will benefit Goodwin. Goodwin is one of the few players in the draft who someone can make a superstar upside argument for. I watched the Maryland and Duke games (they're on youtube) and Goodwin's slashing upside is unbelievable. This guy is almost at a Westbrook/Wade/Ellis level of explosiveness, both first step and being unstoppable after the first step getting to the rim/FT line. Having the ability to penetrate at will is basically the most important thing for a wing's upside and Goodwin has that. And he's not that bad of a shooter, he hit a handful of long 2s or 3s in the games I watched that looked pretty good going up, and on the season he's 7 for 13 from 3 so far. 68% FT is slightly more worrisome. I don't think he's a great shooter yet but he's not a Tyreke Evans type that can't hit anything. I really think the Dwyane Wade comparisons are going to start for him (the Westbrook ones already have)

Not as defensively active as Paul George since George has incredible lateral movement for his size but much more aggressive than him in terms of rebounding presence, like when I said not as defensively active, he's not getting his hands up to alter a shot or a drive, nor spreading his hands out to intercept the lane, despite his 2 blocks today but those blocks weren't of high degree of difficulty cos they came from blocking undersized guys in the lane.
All in all, you are right about their similar comparison, Poythress is slowly adapting to his off-ball wing player role right now so if he gets more used to playing like this, I can see him becoming a Paul George type. That's not necessary a bad pick at 3rd but consider there's the other two SFs in the draft after, idk if it's a wise idea to take him if we plan to hunt down those two other guys.
Also you're right about Harrow, he's just ...meh. For a guy who attacks at will at the high school level, he's not showing much of that in collegiate level.

Re: 2012/13 Toronto Raptors Draft Thread
I still don't see a superstar upside label from Goodwins, yes the kid has explosive first step, and attack at will but he's looking down when he attacks, the broadcasters mentioned it 3-4 times already in this game. When I see him attack, he's not a guy w/ incredible strength, its all quickness at full head of steam, I can't see him doing that against defenders that are much stronger than him. Also, he's too reckness and too turnover prone. I don't see much of his deceptiveness, no hesitation no control, just a guy using most of his quickness at this level.

Re: 2012/13 Toronto Raptors Draft Thread
I like Goodwin and Shabazz. I have a hard time seeing Shabazz failing. Goodwin takes a bit of imagination and hope that he'll develop.
Noel seems like it's going to take too long and the reward won't be all that good. Joakim Noah comes to mind. I want more out of a top three pick than that (and I think Noah's greatest skill is his motor, and Noel doesn't come close.)
I haven't seen Gobert yet.
Len just looks breakable. I don't really like his body-type.
To me, I think this is a better draft to have #1 in than '06, because Shabazz is a clear #1 in my mind. I think the debate opens up after that, where there's not much difference between 2-10 in terms of risk and potential.
