To answer the question, I don't even know what Kobe's value is. Factoring in everything, age, contract, production, I'd assume one young all star and some very solid role players in key spots + salary dump in the form of getting rid of bad lakers contracts.

The market is decided by the owners though, and who knows what would be offered for him?

Honestly it would suck, even if we got value, so you would as a fan just hope for the best deal to keep the franchise going. Being a Laker fan there is more we expect from the franchise so it makes it harder. Some places could just decide to put a semi competitive but exciting product on the floor, but LA needs to win. It would be more like if Tom Brady wanted/needed to be traded.

OKC is that one team that could give back a little talent and take a risk of giving up a high draft pick in order to get a few years of championship. It's hard not to think that WB, Kobe, and Durant wouldn't get it done.

As both a longtime Laker fan and a Kobe fan, that would be the deal I would most like to see because I like the Thunder and would like to see both teams do well from such a deal.

1. Paul Pierce is obviously an inferior player to Kobe, and has been throughout his entire NBA career

2. I don't think anyone should have an issue with comparisons between the two, unless the argument is that Kobe can only be compared to Jordan and possibly Dr. J. If Kobe is to be compared with someone in his era, there are few, if any, better choices than Pierce.

Check out one of Pierce's peak years: 26.8 ppg on 47.1% from the field, 6.7 rebs, 4.7 asts, 1.4 stls, 35.4 3P%.

Those look like Mamba numbers to me. Granted, not peak Kobe, but like I said, clearly Kobe is better. However, I think Paul is great enough that the comparison can be made, albeit with a clear conclusion that Pierce doesn't have $#!+ on Kobe.

This is exactly why Kobe's overall trade value should be less than Pierces, simply because Pierce/other players are a lot easier to construct deals around.

None of those trades except for Deng/Boozer works salary wise.

Kobe's contract is so large, it destroys almost all hope of trading him. A team would have to give up two starters high paying starters (ie Deng/Boozer) or they would have to give up 3-4 core pieces in order to make the salaries even work.

Not sure where you got your numbers from, but:

OKC would need to add $6.15 million
MIA would need to add an additional $3.16 million (with Gasol TK of approximately $600,000)
BKY would need to add an additional $4.46 million (with Gasol TK of approximately $600,000)
DAL would need to add an additional $15.1 million

The new CBA makes the difference between salaries the lesser between 150% (+$100k) or $5 million.

So in relationship to trading with Miami

Kobe and Gasol's salaries amount to $46.849 million. If we use the $600k amount as Gasol's trade kicker that you provided, then the Lakers would require $42.446 million in returning salaries for any trade...or a minimum of $22.849 million for Kobe.

In comparison Wade/Bosh combine for $34.727 million ($7.72 million additional salaries required)
or Mayo/Carter combing for $7.11 million ($15.74 million additional salaries required)

Kobe is worth more than his salary. I don't think people realize that the lakers will take a hit in their fan base when kobe retires. Perhaps the impact won't be as hard at home but certainly in away games where Kobe, sell out ALL away games. MvP chants in away games? MvP chants in Boston when Paul Pierce was around? So much for Paul Pierce being your franchise.

Trading him is a lose/lose situation no matter how you look at it. Let him retires. Like baseball. Kobe's record setting attempts (points, years, rings) will bring much luxuries for the lakers.

They wouldn't. It's just a comparison of how large Kobe (and Pau)'s contracts really are. If for whatever reason, the Heat would agree to a Kobe/Pau for Wade/Bosh swap, Miami would also have to add Haslem and Ray Allen (other combo's work as well, but would have to be 2 players regardless) as well.

It would take FOUR players leaving Miami just to work salary wise. Kobe is not going anywhere even if both the Lakers and Kobe wanted it. Pau is just as hard to move as well.

Of course the key being IF...

Kobe would have to request a trade like Patrick did.....yes Kobe has been much more decorated and successful than St. Patrick but seeing your favorite player go is heartbreaking. In the end with Kobe declining and having a few nice productive years left all you can hope for is young talent, expiring contracts and a few high draft picks. Key note would be never to trade one of the best of all time and risk the curse that myself along with fellow Knick fans have tasted for the following 10 years. Also the Lakers managment are a very responsible bunch compared to the Knicks as well.
