mystery solved ; Lin wants the ball

Post#1 » by boknoy » Tue Dec 11, 2012 4:55 am

in their losing game against Spurs today, we saw the old Jeremy produced huge numbers in the absence of James Harden.

also, he cannot be too modest on the court. if he wants to score then he should do.

totally a coaching issue....
i think the the mchale's game plan was to give deference to harden and to the bigs...
unless you have an accomplished pg of the cp3/parker/rose caliber, coaching staff has to make sure that they help the pg get the team under control... harden is much better playing off the ball... let lin set up the offense!
time for coaching change....

Validated our observations that the coaching is what is muzzling him. Too much showcasing of Harden. Im not saying that Lin should always look for his shot. Just let him shoot when he feels he can make it.

quite a dilemna for the Rockets coaching staff if they want to get big numbers from the backcourt duo. solution imho is trade Lin or move one of them to 6th man.

Trade his ass now.

If you could grab Bledsoe or Brandon Knight... ufff :o

Try a 3 team-deal.

someone else here mentioned a soluation to lin and harden working together. what if the coach barely coaches them at all? let them figure out how to work with each other? im not against it. but when it comes to crunch time, the coach should be a bit more involved. dont let them run 5 straight iso plays if they're struggling to shoot

here it is

I'm not saying that the coaching let them do what they want to do, they have to have a bit of control but let Lin and Harden figure it out for themselves on the court. theyre both unselfish and can pass that being a PG is just second nature, the offense will figure itself out if they let them play.

Hmm, I like your thinking. I agree that both Harden and Lin have great instincts, and it seems like the coaches are killing them with their "system". Harden is only shooting 25% in iso this year compared to 45% last year!

The coaches should coach team defense and let Harden and Lin run the offense freely. Houston's offense is ranked #10 in the league (in terms of pts/100 possessions), whereas the defense is the 6th worst.

Kevin McHale has publicly stated that he wants to see Lin more involved, so how the coaches handle this will be very interesting. There are 3 possible scenarios going forward that I see:

1) Trade Lin. Not likely but always a possibility. This would allow the Rockets to fully revolve around James Harden, the franchise player.

2) Play Lin coming off the bench. In order to make this work they would have to reduce some of Harden's minutes which wouldn't be a bad thing imo. Less Harden playing time means a fresher and more focused Harden in the 4th quarter.

3) Have Lin play more of a true PG role and faciliate the offense. Harden will be asked to play more of a true SG role.

Imo, all 3 are viable options but I think they will go with option #3 first. Harden is not Carmelo so I think it's worth a try. Management might get backlash if they go with #1, the coaching staff might get backlash if they go with #2 so I think we'll start seeing more of #3.

So I would go in this order. #3 followed by #2 then #1 if all fails.

Return to Houston Rockets
