Yeah I see Josh Smith as a "best of the worst" out of next year's FA pool. He's great at catching lobs, on the break and a terrific help defender down low, all things we could use. However a lot will depend on how this team fairs this season, because if the youngsters don't improve enough and we're more than one FA away from being contention I think Morey will hold off and work on accumulating more assets than make a splash in next season's offseason FA pool.

i dont mind smith. used to be that every team needed above average post scoring to be a contender. thundder proved that wrong. plus we got patterson so thats two bigs who can score. dont forget about the other 20 pfs who can have break out years. lin desperately needs a good pnr big, and smith could be that guy

but we need more than smith to be contenders.

lets look at the roster if we get smith

lin
harden
parsons/delfino/morris
smith/patterson/morris/jones/motie/white
asik/g smith/aldrich

pick up options on delfino, parsons, and smith. re-sign alridch to a small contract, i think he's good for 3rd string center.

assuming douglas cant get any consistency in his game, we'd need to look for a backup pg. delfino can be a backup 2/3.

the only way that roster cna be conteders is if lin, harden, parsons and asik make big improvemnts next season. that actually isnt far fetched since they're all young and havent peaked their potential, BUT to expect all 4 to do that in the same year is too much.

insetad of making big trades to get another superstar, we should just roll with that roster next season. in two years lin, harden, parsons, and asik could be at their peaks and stay there for years.

only thing is i dont think harden will be a 1st option

scratch that we should make a trade for a superstar in the next 2 years. all those 1st round pfs on one team is wasteful. only thing is what can we offer? who knows how things are next or after next offseason.

I will say it once again Josh Smith and Asik are not a good fit. Yea we get some very good defense but Smith and Asik is going to be one the most offensively inept frontcourts. Neither can stretch the floor and believe with that ugly ass shot Smith is no stretch 4. And neither would be something to fear in the low post. Horrible idea and if there is not nothing in free agency then develop what you have or look for a third or fourth team to help

Also Smith is going to be looking for max money or close to it and there will be some idiot that gives him that and we better not be those idiots

Yuck.

I want to see Kevin love on the rockets. Ok what about this lin/cook/Aldrich/Patterson future 1st or 2 (2015/2017)for gasol/Blake

Then trade t Jones for a 1st
Then trade 2 1st+ white+ motiejunas+gasol for Kevin love+ any filler wolves want on draft day or deadline if they want to do a Utah deron Williams trade.

Rockets line up
Pg free agent/Blake
Sg harden/free agent
Sf Parsons/free agent
Pf love/Morris
C asik/ free agent

Top 4 seed. Morey completely cashes in all his assets.

Soooo... Lin cook Aldrich Patterson white jones motie and 3 firsts for love?

sadly minny can still do better. Who would they cut to add all those players? They don't need Lin unless they want him to play 2 guard with Rubio and they have alexey who looks promising to me, then they get 4 pfs (wouldn't be able to keep all of them and have Williams and Cunningham) a backup in cook and a 3 string center in Aldrich...plus 3 mid to late firsts

I would do it if we could cut it down to 2 firsts and one of either jones or motie and we get rid or alexey or 1 first and both and we get alexey or ridnour, but I'm greedy and timber pups wouldn't do any of the above three

Minny will not trade Love they have him for another 4 years and can fire Khan, should have long ago. Of those 2 of those 4 years they can try and put players around him to try win. If they fail then can move him with two years left and still get back better package then what you thought of.

If Minny can trade Garnett then I don't see Love as untouchable. I smell a Love for Gasol or Howard swap

Per wiretap:
In Kevin Love's first game since criticizing owner Glen Taylor and general manager David Kahn, there were scatterings of boos and trash talk from fans of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Love responded with an uncharacteristically poor shooting performance of 3-for-17.

"I was ready for anything," Love said. "I heard some things. I'm not going sit here and call people ignorant or anything like that. Everybody takes a stance on something."

Garnett was already past his prime (or I guess you can argue at the very end of it) when he was traded. Completely different scenario. Love is not even on a max contract.

Kevin Love is nice and all, but we need some more defense, especially on that pick n' roll. LMA is a prime target IMO, but I don't know the chances of us actually landing him, we'd probably have to give up a lot in return.

The Rockets have signed a 6'1" PG named Patrick Beverly. Guaranteed contract through 2015.

Trade coming soon?
