Re: Official Arsenal FC Thread
Yeah I was surprised to see Yennaris (sp?) make that comment on twitter. I think Arsenal desperately need a veteran player who can play a father-figure and demand respect from the younger players. Think they mentioned Kevin Nolan on a recent episode of the Tuesday Club, and an English player like him would be great.

Re: Official Arsenal FC Thread
wenger says after the game , the players gave it there all... well thats embarrassing then. Fergie woulda threw a hair dryer at every player today except wilshere. Wish he had the cajones fergie has , fergie woulda done much better with the squads we've had over the years.
yeah and we desperately need a leader , we havent had a great captain in a while , vermaelen is at squilacci levels this season.

10 players we have on our team to do **** all and have been paid top dollar , yet the one's that should be staying and be getting good wages are lowballed and will be leaving (walcott, sagna)
And we've got crap like Denilson, Park, and Bendtner out on loan too. You'd think that all of the garbage combined could probably net us 40 million at least (for 13 players, that's not valuing them too much). If we sold all of them and only signed 3-4 quality players with that money in the summer transfer window, I'd be happy. We have enough young players who could probably fill in the rest of the roster.

Re: Official Arsenal FC Thread
I think Arsenal would be extremely lucky to get 40M off those players. I imagine most clubs would be unwilling to pay them the wages that they are currently on. Crazy to think that Arsenal have had higher wages than Bayern.

Re: Official Arsenal FC Thread
yeah they're all pretty much tied down for a couple of years , such a tragedy.
our wage structure is terrible , wengers idea of the best player and the worst player not having that much of a gap in wages is stupid. thats why we have so many people that dont even play and get paid really well.
I dont understand all these bargains we make instead of signing 5 hit or miss guys why cant we just sign a proven star for the same amount of money used on a bunch of hit and miss players.

Wenger just has to go. His whole philosophy is flawed. He tried forming a winning team using the "Pistons" approach of using players that are not stars. It clearly didn't work. They need to try the Porto approach and get cheap players directly from S. America and sign established players from Europe. I know it is easier said than done, but it can be done.

That's an average of less than 3.1M (Euros, since most of them would probably be leaving England) per player and not all of them are being paid crazy wages that outweigh their talent. I'd say that's probably a more than fair estimate if we sold everyone.

he had a chance to get falcao a few years back from SAmerica but he chose chamakh instead ahahahah
The definition of insanity is trying the same things over and over again and expecting a different result. Wenger/board refuse to spend adequately on players , continue to sell players , only buy cheap hit/miss players that usually turn into misses and they refuse to work on defensive problems. Such a shame.

I can see Diaby and Bendtner having some value, but I wouldn't touch others even if they were free. I guess there could be a club or two who might want to take a flyer on Ramsey and maybe Gervinho.

Re: Official Arsenal FC Thread
The problem with the EPL is that England is not producing great talent right now so the clubs have to find talent elsewhere and have to do so intelligently. Teams in Spain and Germany sign foreign stars, but the heart of their teams are based on national players such as Bayern, Barca, Dortmund, etc. EPL teams that don't have the same money as Chelsea, Man U, and City to buy foreign stars have to do a better job finding talent and scouting. This is where Wenger has failed. He keeps trying to find these diamonds in the rough, but it just hasn't work. He is not a good talent evaluator. The club needs move on and start over.

he isnt as lucky as he used to be on talent evaluations anymore , we've always been selling high and replacing cheap its just before he always used to get lucky
sold overmars high , bought pires for cheap
sold anelka high and bought henry on the cheap
not as lucky anymore

Ramsey playing on the wing is a disaster, I've seen the same thing happen to Anderson before.
Put him in the midfield 3 and give him a proper chance.

i can see some mid-table English club paying crazy money for Ramsey.

Calling it lucky is unfair. You don't have to devalue all he accomplished at Arsenal just because you're unhappy with the current situation. Buying cheap is a gamble, always has been, people remember Overmars and Pires, but forget Vivas, Stepanov, Jeffers, Cygan, Senderos. Problem is now with the improved scouting networks far fewer players fly under the radar for long.

link? We got Chamakh on a free anyway, while Falcao was already at Porto.

No, it's not. It's something about being mentally ill.

You can't really lump all those players together. None of them are really getting top dollar anyway, better than some of them deserve, definitely. Most of those players you mentioned are on 50-60k a week, some less, Arshavin is the only player earning more at 78k a week.
You can't forget that these players are signed to contracts, contracts that we can't just break when we want. The reason Squillaci, Almunia, Chamakh hang around the club is because they won't accept a transfer. We weren't the only club that was in for these players anyway. At the times of their signing no one was saying they were ridiculous. Arshavin was great for a year, then lost it. Squillaci was an experienced French international CB, bought at a time when everyone was saying we needed an experienced CB. Almost all of them looked good at the time the deal was signed.
Diaby was a great buy, and would have been a great player if it wasn't for one terrible tackle that has ruined his career.
I haven't given up on Ramsey, anyway. He took a major blow when he lost a year just as he had broken into the first team. He was rated with Wilshere for talent, and we beat out United to sign him. He's still young, and extremely talented. He works his tail off, has a great attitude, and I think one day he'll put it all together.
Wenger's certainly made some bad signings (Chamakh, Gervinho, Santos) but he has accomplished a ton for the good of the club (new stadium, training facility, revamped academy, new medical center) and you can't just look back with hindsight and point out just the failures.
As for Walcott, we've offered what he's worth, imo.

Agree with you there, he'll never be a winger.

Less than Bayern as far as I've seen.
Bayern- 170 Mil
Arsenal- 132 Mil

Re: Official Arsenal FC Thread
my bad ironchef , you're right I should show more respect to wenger and stop neglecting the things he's done right. Hindsight is 20/20 and all those signings did look good at the time so its easy to talk from this Point of view. But you understand i'm just a frustrated fan tired of losing ahah , its clouding my judgement.
btw regarding falcao we were interested in him and according to him he was "desperate to join us".

but the chamkah/falcao thing i mentioned was completely wrong so i'll take the fall for that lol. Got confused
