Re: GT: WASH @ NO 12-11-2012 8:00 PM
As others mentioned, this was an ugly game, but that is expected when 2 bad teams play each other.
As for Crawford, he took a few bad shots, but he was also the only one that could score and the only one that seemed willing to attack the rim. He deserves nothing but props this game.
For those that have urged more playing time for Martin, I think you saw why during the last couple of games why he only gets spot minutes. He is kind of like Nick Young light. He gets hot every now and then, but more often than not he is off.
Although I'd like to see Beal a little more assertive in games, I also don't like how Wittman's offense incorporates him. Most of the time Beal is just stuck in a corner and the times he does get the ball is with a hand-off at the top of the key. I'd like to see Beal get some more pin-down screens and run more pick and rolls. At times, Beal seems like he is starting to get in a groove, but then he doesn't even see the basketball for multiple plays. I'd like the Wizards to try to run more things for him like they do Crawford.

We have a .167 winning percentage. Though I don't come around enough to know whether the majority of comments should be classified as "bitching," I think we're entitled to voice frustration. This team is pathetic.
Not to offend but I think the Wizards should be happy with any win they can get with Crawford at PG. Beal is playing better. That alone is progress.
Everyone should feel free to voice their opinion, but I seconded the OP because I think a win on the road is a win to cherish.
Also, NO scored 70 points. The Hornets average 92.6 -- so, it's not all bad.
Fair enough.
But who cares where Crawford is playing when the team wins? I can all but guarantee you that he won't be around when this team is successful. And that's precisely my point.
The only player who likely will be is Beal. And that's the problem. We're forced to watch meaningless basketball and "analyze" who might be what. It's pointless. This team does not have the makings of anything special. Wall and Beal are the ONLY building blocks (maybe Seraphin. Maybe). And I blame that on Grunfeld. It's been entirely too long to have only two bonafide players who can be a part of the long term process. I'm tired of watching it. One road win against the worst team in the West, at least for me, doesn't change that.

Ed Wood wrote:Yes, I do recall your bearish impression (hands) of Davis, which was an unconventional opinion if nothing else. Rumors of Beal's demise as a prospect are also looking somewhat exaggerated. He's broadly useful if not yet an exceptional shot creator and (as a rookie no less) actually very competent defensively. Which is to say he's the inverse of the man he replaced, Nick Young. I'm for that trade, as I expect consistent shooting is an easier addition to one's repertoire than "generally playing basketball."
I thought he would play center

Beal is definitely the Anti Nick.
Beal had 7 rebounds 4 assists. That would be a 4 game total for Nick.
And their personalities couldn't be any more different.
As an aside. Did you see that burst Beal turned on to get to the basket on that break. Pretty nice.
The downside. I expected him to have better handles. He seems disjointed in his movement. Often he looks like he is a millisecond away from traveling with his first step. And the shot when wide open isn't what I expected it would be.
But he is 19 and he has been tossed into a starting role on a team with a revolving starting line up.

Just stop watching then....and spare us all your negativity.

I agree that a win is a win. However, its hard to get all giddy about a win when the team still looks so bad. I don't fault anyone for being a negative nellie when the team is 3-15 and the Wiz barely won against an equally bad team starting two rookies.

So what's the deal with Webster. He is bombing as a starter.
It was rough watching Chris have such an off game. He had been playing pretty well. 1-7 tonight. At least he still grabbed 5 boards and 2 blocks.
Martin at least was plus 20 and 2-5 from 3 with 4 rebounds and a block.
Refs really sucked and it was two bad teams. It was going to look ugly. Lots of defense from both teams just made it even uglier.
NO should have one that game. They should be embarrassed. They have Davis and Anderson. Lopez is supposed to be better then that. Vasquez bombed. And they have a vet back up SG in Mason.

Nothing is happening to Webster. He'd done very well for himself to start the year and was producing results well above his previously established level of production. As it turns out he was on a hot streak and not actually suddenly way better on this terrible roster after dozens of games to establish reasonable expectations; he's coming back down to earth.

Kind of amazing Kevin played only 16 minutes and Okafor played 25. Kevin was getting it done out there.
Gotta start one of Kevin or Nene out there with Crawford. That seems kind of obvious.
Last 3 games, the Wiz have played very even to the competition the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarters. But every game they are down like 10 after the first. That seems to be the trend all year.
Could it just be Randy's crappy starting line ups. At least he was finally smart enough to play Crawford max minutes.

Okafor was with New Orleans last season. Perhaps Wittman wanted him to get more burn or maybe Okafor had a little more energy on defense. His play kept him out there longer.
As it is, the way EG messed up the roster these kind of things are bound to happen. Kevin will lose minutes as long as Okafor is on the roster and Nene is healthy enough to play.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

Just watched the game on DVR. Not sure why I read this thread. It's a good win, WTF do you some of you guys want? Do you realize that we had 11 players, Nene still not 100%, Seraphin was under the weather and Jordan Crawford is playing point guard. No Booker, Wall, Ariza and Price.
And while the Hornets are bad and were bad tonight, when Anthony Davis was on the floor earlier, they were a much better team. Of course, Davis comes back for this game after being out for weeks and while he didn't start, he's such a force on the other end.
Nice to see Beal put two decent games back-to-back. Nene took control later in the game. Defense helped win it. Effort is all I'm asking for.

I dont see how the roster is the problem. Kevin had been getting plenty of burn even when he was less productive rebounding. He did a great job tonight.

Re: GT: WASH @ NO 12-11-2012 8:00 PM
My notes after the DVR viewing:
Crawford was sick. Few bad shots, but dude has, to quote Nick Young, large "kahunas". Immense swagger. What we call "body bag full of swag".
Beal was impressive. Nice jab step step back on RIvers and showed some surprising speed on that break away. Also showed off a euro step for the and 1. He's been filling the stat sheet nicely.
Rivers is terrible. Flashy dribbler. Sucks.
Martin is like a really bad Kyle Korver. Like if Kyle Korver couldn't shoot but was known around the league as a shooter anyway.

Yes I think you and the rest of the world know we are 3-15. Point is, you can use the other 15 game threads for your condescending whine-fest, let me and the few other slightly optimistic fans enjoy the other 3 game threads. Thanks!

Re: GT: WASH @ NO 12-11-2012 8:00 PM
as others have said, fugly game. Happy to have won. Not that surprised really
considering how bad NO is.
My takeaway from this game was a much harder criticism of Seraphin.
He's got the body to be an absolute beast but I don't see much if any
explosiveness around the basket. Yes he can score with either hand on
his jump hook. That's nice. But he's 6-9/6-10 280 lbs. He should be
dunking the ball hard and scaring people from getting in his way when
he's around the rim. He's as soft as Blatche was. I understand he's been
a whipping boy of the refs at times. Start dishing it out and punishing
people in the paint.
Beal looks solid. I'm betting his shooting comes around in the fullness
of time. At least when he's out there, it doesn't seem like he has that
deer-in-the-headlights look you might expect from a 19 yo kid. He's
knows how to ball.

Ugly game but good win. Austin Rivers looks like a bust and Beal played his best game of the season. Hes a solid all around player.
