If Rory smashed Condit on the same night that GSP beat Diaz (and let's say for fun that Hendricks lost in the mean time). Things could get really awkward for those two.

Re: UFC 158 (Montreal, QC; March 17, 2013)
I am not impressed with the UFC coming back to Montreal so quickly.
I feel like constant hometown crowds, Brazil as well, really change the tone of fights.
Every fighter wants to break it big in the States, so I feel like the American fighters are never at an advantage fighting in the US, because it is the goal of every fighter to headline a Vegas or wherever.
After some thought, I sure hope the GSP/Diaz is stateside, to make it a little fairer for Diaz.

Re: UFC 158 (Montreal, QC; March 17, 2013)
Can't do it in Stockton because Stockton sucks and everyone is broke, but why not a super large Diaz-headlined event in Sacramento?
I really hope there's no GSP on this card.

How often does the champ fight on the challengers home turf?
Serious question, I bet it's next to never.

If you want a seriously rowdy crowd during a one-sided fight, it makes far more business sense to hold it in that area. GSP was getting booed in Montreal.

Re: UFC 158 (Montreal, QC; March 17, 2013)
I love what they are doing with Montreal. It is a huge boxing city, and they are turning it into the MMA capital of the world.
I believe it's third in NA in hosting boxing events. It's a fight city. The UFC is doing a great job on hitting it hard and often to take the city over and to create a culture of MMA in the city.

What's your definition of rowdy? A bunch of ass hats drunk out of their mind booing everything that isn't a knock out?
If so, sure, that's what you'll get with the pro Diaz group you want.
You could also stand outside the 7-11 and watch two drunk frat guys fighting with each other on a saturday night and get the same crowd.
If im a business, I want big arenas, big hype, big publicity. When GSP fights in Montreal, you get that across the entire country.
When Diaz fights in Sac, you don't.

I'm just being facetious by choosing a guy who lives in Vegas. You could probably find a Mir fight or two and same for guys like Randy. Your point stands.

Re: UFC 158 (Montreal, QC; March 17, 2013)
I think the city dictates the tone of fights sometimes.
I just.....I want to see more fights from around NA, not just Toronto, Vegas, Montreal, with other cities sprinkled in.
It'd be nice if they could get a more American college sports crowd-vibe thing happening for a few events.
That's really where I see the crowds in the states kicking serious ass.

You just described any MMA event. Montreal events aren't filled with mouth breathing douchebags either?
And Diaz has never fought in Sacramento as a co-headliner for a UFC title, so you're just speculating. I think the hype would be astronomical, especially with Diaz running his mouth prior to the fight.
Anyway, Sacramento might have some venue problems, but there are awesome venues in Oakland, SF, San Jose... I'm worried Dana's taking Canada for granted, assuming the money will always be there, while ignoring other parts of the world that CAN be successful if a **** idiot wasn't running the show.

Re: UFC 158 (Montreal, QC; March 17, 2013)
I guess it just comes down to GSP in Canada kind of being boring now.
Have him fight in Brazil.
Or somewhere other than Vegas in America.
Or the UK.
Or China.
Or.....well, anywhere else.

Re: UFC 158 (Montreal, QC; March 17, 2013)
Not sure if it is this date, but seems like it.
http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/12/12/3 ... h-but-deal
According to UFC president Dana White, the promotion has offered both GSP and Diaz a fight on March 16 in Montreal for the UFC welterweight title, however, the "deal isn't done" yet, White told MMAFighting.com Wednesday.
Diaz's manager Cesar Gracie confirmed the fight has been offered to Diaz, however, he said Diaz has yet to sign the contract. He was hoping to get that done either today or tomorrow. As far as Gracie is concerned, signing the contract appears to be a formality.

I'm pretty sure they know what they are doing from a max profit stance. I'm sure they have already considered the difference in money between if they headline an event with GSP in Montreal or if they headline him in Phoenix, as well as vice versa, if they headline GSP in Phoenix vs if they headlined Rampage vs Scrub, if it makes a difference in monied made (including advertisment, marketing, seating prices, etc)
All in all, I think the UFC knows what they are doing.

Re: UFC 158 (Montreal, QC; March 17, 2013)
Is it even possible for Nick to do all the press and promotion obligations?
I mean, we've seen him blow this off before.
Wow, this dude gets second chances.
Please GOD Nick, just show up to stuff and fight.
