BTW, I believe Pierce has also said this. Really recent on one of those kids-like NBA Action shows they replay on NBATV.

So if Shaq shoots 65% and averages 35 ppg would he be the best scorer

best scorer is different from best offensive player

Melo is the best scorer in the NBA, period

Lebron has FINALLY decided to work on his game as of late, but most of his game is still blow by his man in half court, transition buckets, and as of late he's added the post up, but he's not like Melo on the block.

People talk about Lebron's "clutch gene" as to why they would choose others to get a bucket with the game on the line, but really it's because his scoring isn't as refined as others. There are still spots on the floor, and things you could push him to do that affect his efficiency.

Carmelo, Kobe, Dirk, and KD have a more refined skill set

That would be a compelling argument... If it were true. LeBron is a better mid range shooter and 3-point shooter than Carmelo and also scores more and with better efficiency from the post. What are those spots on the floor and things you can do to affect his efficiency, since theres a 10% difference between him and Melo?

Listen man, I'm not really into the whole "advance stat geek" stuff so those arguments are going to fall on deaf ears. If you force Lebron a little off the block, he's not as proficient. If you force Lebron to pull up off his right hand, and make him drive left, he's not as effective in my opinion.

I'm not railing against advanced stats, because I use them judiciously, but I know what my eyes tell me as well. So you can just go ahead argue that somewhere else.

not even talking advanced stats: scoring average, shooting percentage, 3-point percentage. bron is better in all those categories.

if you force lebron a little off the block, he's one of the best mid range shooters among the scoring wings (melo, bron, kd, pierce, etc.)

if you make lebron drive left, he'll finish with his dominant hand (he's a real life lefty who shoots with his right). in fact he usually prefers to drive left, have you seen him play???

this is where your analogy gets weakened: shaq shoots 65% on shots to the rim only. lebron takes the exact same shots that melo takes from the rim, from midrange and from 3. so the fg% actually tells us something.

LeBron scoring is underrated. Melo has only 4 +40 points game in playoffs in his career. LeBron has 11 +40 points games in playoffs career. When LeBron decides to score he does it as well as Melo.
Make a comparison between Melo and LeBron +40 points games against the celtics in playoffs, and realize that LeBron did it using a lot more skills than Melo. Can Melo score that way on a die or go home game? Did he ever had the pressure Lebron and the Heat had ? That's just an example. Melo is maybe a better shooter, but i don't think he is more skilled than LeBron offensively.

Do you guys really think LeBron woke up that day with incredible skills to beat the Celtics, than lost it the next day? LeBron is an all around player, he is offensively as skilled as Melo.

I don't like either guy (Melo or Lebron), but Melo is harder to defend because he's a more natural scorer who is a threat to score from anywhere. Lebron is more of a slasher. Pack the paint on Lebron and D-Whistle and take your chances, something that won't work against someone like Melo.

If melo is a better scorer than lebron why does lebron routinely score more points than melo?

Melo's a great scorer when he is hot. But hes not as consistent as lebron or durant at it.

And it takes him more shots.

Then why does melo have a lower career scoring average?

lebron is better shooter from mid range and 3 than carmelo. other than that, your argument is very strong.

Melo was on some mediocre Nuggets squads in a strong Western conference, you realize part of the reason the Big 3 came together in Miami was because they couldn't beat Boston's big 3 individually. Last season Amare decided to finally crash the glass and the year before that was injured what was Melo supposed to do?

LeBron is a great scorer he's third all time in PPG, but he's not a better scorer than Melo.

LeBron can hurt you in more ways than one. He loves passing makes some of the best passes in the game.

even that is questionable considering that lebron has 9 50-point games and melo has 2.

Lebron has scored more points on either a higher or comparable TS% in the regular season since their sophomore seasons.

He's also clearly in front of melo in postseason PPG & TS%.

Similar usage & higher PPG & TS% = better scorer.

End of discussion.

This kinda sorta reminds me of people saying Kobe is a better scorer than Mike because he's more willing to shoot contested 3 pointers.

So the guy who scores less is the better scorer?

And if you are saying its because of an eyeball test ill take Jamal crawford as the best scorer in the league. Melo doesn't have near as many moves as jcrossover

Unfortunately, basketball isn't a math test. It's a game that actually requires skill, so take your "facts" and shove em. I provided facts as well and certain skills that Carmelo possesses as a shot maker that Lebron doesn't. The stats would tell you that Lebron is a better scorer than Kobe, but what do your eyes tell you?

except that you facts weren't factual since you clearly didn't know that lebron was a lefty and that he has been outstanding from midrange for the past 4 years.
