Ideal scenario, he continues to improve (perhaps a tad slower than we originally thought) but when it comes to re-negotiate to re-sign him off his rookie deal, we get him cheaper than a max (which we would've had to shell out had he completely taken over.) We re-sign him for less than the max, and THEN he explodes and takes over.

If he takes over starting tomorrow, that's fine, but salary cap-wise, this could be a blessing in disguise,

Quite the optimist. If he's not playing his ass-off to get a large deal then he certainly won't do so afterward.

Sure, I think he definitely would. His next contract would come when he's 27 or 28, still in his peak and worthy of a max contract age-wise.

I agree, if he sticks with just these flashes of brilliance it is very beneficial to our salary cap situation. That being said we obviously all want him to be more consistent.

Pretty sure I haven't seem as much of him as you guys, but my take on him is he's a complimentary scorer, although he'll have a great size mismatch to work with sometimes...probably not quite so much right now, with granger out since teams are more likely to switch defenders on him, particularly if he shows a bit early.
But I reckon he COULD be a nightmare defensively with his length/athletic ability, plus a good two way transition player. Overall, very good for where he was picked. But he needs to pick up the consistency and intensity defensively to be a game changer there, rather than just good.

Most of the comments in this thread were premature in hind-sight. Paul is turning the corner and turning into a star.

Lets hope he keeps it up. A scoring trio of Granger, West, and George at their best would be nearly unstoppable.

let it be known not all of us counted him out after a handful of rough games early on. Questioning his mental toughness and his mindset is still something that baffles me.

He has too much talent and too good of a work ethic to not put it together. Will there be growing pains? Sure, but you have to look at the big picture and that is that this kid can be scary good and thats what we are seeing now.
