The OP was a genius when he made this thread. Gerald Henderson is the key...to a trade!

I love how two weeks ago when Taylor was playing great the sentiment was "Hendo is expendable"

Now Hendo's back and Taylor is playing bad and it's "Why would anybody consider trading Hendo"

He's right about average. Solid, but not a prolific scorer. Solid, but not prolific shooter. Solid, but not prolific defender. That's expendable for the right deal

That Dahntay Jones comparison is really playing out.

This! I can just see Detroit over paying him. He would fit nice next to knight and stuckey. They need a non ball dominate 2 to play w knight in the 1st unit and stuckey in the 2nd.

This is where Cho has my confidence. Let him do his job and we will be happy with the results.

We actually are in a pretty good position trade-wise. Hendo is a nice chip and Diop's expiring gives us a lot of flexibility. I could see Hendo fitting in in LAL (they've been trying to get Raja Bell), and Toronto is likely looking to do anything they can to stop the bleeding (may be duped into making a panic move).

Sounds weird, but LAL doesn't have a lot of pieces I like (once you get past the fact that Kobe and Dwight aren't going anywhere). I'm not a huge Jordan Hill fan, but if they continue to implode this year, their first rounder might be worth something.

I think some move that brought back Ed Davis and picks from TOR would be fantastic.

That's what the Suns are hoping for.

Suns have their pick?

2013 first round draft pick to Phoenix
The L.A. Lakers will send the least favorable of their own 1st round pick (top-14 protected), Cleveland's own 2013 1st round pick, Sacramento's own 1st round pick (top-13 protected) and Miami's 2013 1st round pick to Phoenix. If the L.A. Lakers' 1st round pick is within the top-14 selections, Phoenix will automatically receive the L.A. Lakers' 1st round pick. [L.A. Lakers-Phoenix, 7/11/2012]

2013 first round draft pick to Cleveland
Cleveland has the right to swap the least favorable of their own 2013 1st round pick, Miami's own 2013 1st round pick (top-10 protected) and Sacramento's own 2013 1st round pick (top-13 protected) with the L.A. Lakers own 2013 first round pick (top-14 protected). If the L.A. Lakers own 2013 first round pick is #1-#14, then the L.A. Lakers' obligation to Cleveland shall be extinguished. [Cleveland-L.A. Lakers, 3/15/2012]

Henderson really needed to take the next step this year to warrant a second contract, yet he looks the same as last year (maybe with a bit more range). Its clear we don't need him, I mean we were pretty successful when he was injured and had no problem with guard depth. There are a few teams with lots of PF depth, we just need to find the best rebounder/defender we can get for Hendo. I wouldn't include any first rounders. We will need both Detroit's and Portlands pick to offset the one we owe Chicago.

Naaaaaaaaaaa. It's only official once Bonnell reports that there is no way in hell we are trading Hendo.

I'm a big proponent of trading good but not great players in their contract year. It's what we should have done with Mek or Matt Carrol for example.

When you resign them it seems you either just get your money's worth or end up regretting it. And even if you get your money's worth it still costs you cap flexibility.

While we're on the subject I though Ben Gorden might make good trade bait as well, If I was a playoff team that couldn't score I wouldn't mind bringing him off the bench.

I remember it just like yesterday when I took my first dip into this Bobcats board, and had questions about Hendo's prospective future as the starting SG

i spent a lot of time watching hendo last night. he does become a bit of a ball stopper at times. then again, so does kemba. i guess the difference, kemba is our best offensive player right now by a mile and he is much better and creating his own offense. so i dont mind kemba being a ball stopper as much. he has to do it out of necessity.

hendo's inability to pull defenders away from the paint with 3pt shooting and his inability to create offense for others is a concern for a player who is considered a starting sg and due for a new contract.

we were all hoping to see hendo continue building on his game they way he has done the past two seasons. perhaps that injury has robbed us of seeing the improvements hendo made. he is shooting the 3pt ball better, but honestly it was awful to begin with so he had a ton of room for improvement. i'll be happy to give him to the all-star break to start showing some improvement, but if we dont see any and he appears to have hit a plateau, then i'll be 100% behind trying to move hendo for a big man or pick.

the last thing i want to see is
1) losing him for nothing in free agency
2) overpaying for an average shooting guard who is done improving

I have said many times that I like Hendo, and would love to sign him to a modest contract that keeps him as leadership off the bench. Considering he did not get extended early that makes me think that he is not interested in signing a modest contract. He wants to get paid. If he wants a big contract we need to trade him.

As stated in my original post Gerald Henderson is an asset to the team if we want to be competetive. If u look at the lakers game from last night he not only scores well but gets big 50/50 balls and rebounds. I think a lot of people want Shabazz next year but we cant lose a key piece in hopes of getting a guy next season who may not even fall to us in the draft. if you all watched the laker game you saw what im talking about.

That is not my stance. My stance is this. In a couple years we will need to resign Kemba. We will need to resign whatever players prove to be our ultimate keepers to team with Kemba long term. We don't need to handicap our salary cap this soon by giving big contracts to mediocre players. If that is the case we might as well have kept Felton,Crash, and Captain Jack all of whom are better than Hendo.
