It's not. He isn't taking a step, he's just pushing off the floor with the other foot, which you can do.

It is a travel. In that situation, you have to push off the floor with both feet simultaneously. He pushes off with only his back foot which is basically just him switching pivot feet. But it is the NBA so that will never get called.

No, it's not.

If a player, with the ball in his possession, raises his pivot foot off the floor, he must pass or shoot before his pivot foot returns to the floor.

Except by raising his pivot foot to esentially take another step he established another pivot foot which you can't do. The quote you provided implies one thing only - jumping into the air off your pivot foot. Not putting your other foot down to raise your pivot foot, ie, making a step.

Blatant travel. But then again, Kobe made this one of his signature moves and he gets away with it all the time, so at least there is some consistency here.

This again? a thread is started on it every other month on the general board and the rules always come down to saying it is NOT a travel.

You can establish a pivot foot, lift up the other foot and then you must make a pass or shot before said foot comes back down to the ground.
