One final move for a perfect offseason.. Lance Berkman
Offer him the minimum for the chance to win another ring. See if he bites.
He would be an amazing DH

On the Fan AA made it seem like the only move he would make if he could, is to add a quality or possibly big time reliever (closer?) for the pen.

Lind will have a decent year IMO. I bet he hits 25+ HR's with a .320+ OBP.

Berkman would be great to have, but Lind's still stuck on the roster and seemingly not going anywhere. Just have to make the best of that situation and platoon him.

For me, the biggest hole pre-Dickey was 1 more quality starter. We got that in Dickey...so I'm pretty pleased. At the end of the day, starting pitching wins you games in this league.

I think we still need a power Lefty bat to offset Bautista and EE and I don't think Lind is that guy.
Even a proven clutch veteran hitter could really help AA might not realize it now but he will
by the trade deadline.
I also agree the bullpen needs another big proven arm I don't really trust guys like Delabar and Lincoln.
I also really hope Oliver and Villanueva are brought back.

If a power left-handed bat or lefty-masher is to be had, it likely has to be through a trade where Lind+pieces going the other way. BJs need a player that has something to prove or is due for a bounce-back year. We all want it but it's probably not going to happen.

Someone here mentioned that Berkman hates the DH role and wants to play the field until he retires.

If true, that kind of attitude will hurt his earning potential.

That would be me.
He seemed to have softened his stance, but at one point he said he'd rather retire than DH.

Re: One final move for a perfect offseason.. Lance Berkman
No team, even WS champs, are flawless. You can make your team look great on paper, but every year injuries, suspensions, regression affect every team. Look at the Giants. Lincecum and Zito weren't their AS-level selves, and Melky got busted for PEDs. Other guys stepped up and they won it all. Was anyone expecting Marco Scutaro to join the Giants and become their savior?
AA has put together a team that on paper looks ready to compete for the AL East title, with a few holes in the end of the lineup and bullpen. Even if he makes more moves to address these deficiencies (marginally upgrading the DH spot) I don't think it'll make much of a difference in the end. To win big we'll need all our big guns to have great seasons. Swapping Berkman for Lind wouldn't take this team to another level (as much as I hate Lind)

Did you just say that you prefer Adam Lind to a guy that put up a 950 OPS in 2011?
Sure Berkman is injury prone but lets not be foolish. And if he's playing DH fulltime, he'd be far less of an injury risk as well.
Not that it matters as we're at our financial limit.

I dont get how so many people believe in the raptors, they have zero to chance to win it all.

This needs to stop being brought up. He has stated he doesn't want to play in the AL and there's no chance he'd come play on turf.

We might as well just keep Lind. This doesn't seem like a great move..i rather go after another bullpen guy like Brian Wilson..Put up the money!!!!

What about signing Travis Hafner? Left-handed bat. Can play 1B. Played in the AL. Played for Cleveland, so i'm sure he's got a decent scoop on their starting pitching.
Had a bWAR of 0.7 vs. Lind's 0.0, and had a higher OBP than Lind despite a lower BA.

The problem isn't that Hafner wouldn't be better, the problem is again what to do with Lind. Are you just going to stick him on the bench? Probably not worth it if that's the case.

He'll say that until no one offers him an OF job. Then he will gladly embrace a DH role. I don't believe he would throw away millions just to stand on principle.

lind will be ok.............probably weak against left handers but we have beno, davis, or Isturis to use a platoon if nessasry if he continues to stink it up against lefties
