After reading through this thread, unfortunately this appears to be the most probably scenario.

Which means the 2013 season looks to be the real "go for it" season. So for better or worse, the Jays may need to push even harder than the latest Dickey move.

We're at about 125m for next year without J.Johnson or a DH. Obviously more will change, but that gives you an idea what the salary escalation for Buehrle, Dickey, and Reyes do. That assumes the current arby eligible guys are who we think we are and get paid on the same scale they will this year.

So, to keep Johnson we'll need almost as large a payroll increase next year as the Jays received this year.

If the jays make the playoffs, i kind of expect that to be within the realm of possibility.
