Hypothetical: Favors/Kanter for Rondo?

Just food for thought: Would you include both Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter in a trade to Boston for Rajon Rondo? I know that is a big price to pay. That's just the core of the package -- there could be other parts going both ways.

Rondo is about the same age as Big Al and Milsap (26-27). A top 12 player in the NBA, who will hit his peak in 3 years. On another team (without Pierce's grip), he would likely put up 20+ points per game. He has already proven he can score big. The guy makes big plays almost every game, the kind that only a handful of NBA players can make.

This is the only NBA player in today's game outside of LeBron James and Jason Kidd who you could imagine averaging a near-triple double for a stretch. There have been many times in each of the last five postseasons when he has been the best player outside of LeBron.

Why for Boston: Kanter and Favors would learn so much from KG over the next 3 years. They're about the same age as Avery Bradley. Together with Bradley, they could make a potentially dominant defensive trio.

I wouldn't trade both (especially Favors) in a Rondo trade, but can see that realistically being Boston's asking price. Would probably trade Kanter and almost any combination of guys that aren't Favors.

Hell no.... Rondo i reckon is a bit over rated.. There is a reason he passes the ball a bit.. He cant shoot. Put him on an ordinary side (not saying Jazz are) and he would be no where near as good. If he was on a ordinary side he would be as good as Phil Jackson as a coach without an already star studded side in place. Lets see Jackson coach a Bobcats or DC side..

No. Maybe one of them, but not both. I'd rather just build around this front line tbh. We do need an elite wing player or pg but I think we can use Hayward, GSW pick, our pick, burks, Millsap to get that.

Rondo would be another D-Will situation and he's not going to lead us to a championship single handily. Especially with Sap and Jefferson as our starting bigs.

I'd probably be willing to give up Kanter to get him but not Favors and certainly not both.

i hope it was not the last ring to do some good deal, those expiring contracts may have limited value in next few months, but still under this coach i dont think any even major deal could help us much

Rondo is excellent, the quality of player you can count on when building a team. I expect him to remain at a level higher than Favors or Kanter will ever get to. And we get to keep our picks and our other young assets. Gotta take it, assuming he's willing to stay.

It's not that I wouldn't think Rondo is worth Favors/Kanter per se, but to me the whole idea of getting Rondo is to maximize a duo like Favors/Kanter.

Good for our team? Sure. I love Rondo's game and sees him fitting in very well with the Jazz. Realistic? Probably not. If we only trade one, we'd have to make a salary dump to take on Rondo's contract, which will really skew things talent-wise in Boston's favor. Trading both would be throwing away our building blocks for the future. One of the great things about Utah right now is that we have tremendous talent in terms of the money we're paying. Trading one of those value players for Rondo would nullify that and put us in luxury tax territory (which isn't allowed in the first place, I believe.).

If we're going to make a trade, I'd first be looking to moving Al Jefferson's expiring contract. He's making $15MM this year and will probably ask for around the same amount in free agency. Favors and Kanter are much cheaper, come with great potential and are signed for at least 2 more years (plus restricted free agency).

This is the type of move that makes you into the Atlanta Hawks. We'd be a 50 win team that gets eliminated in the 2nd round every year and never threatens to do anything more than that.

What we should have done last year was trade Jefferson and/or Millsap, tank like crazy, get another lotto pick and continue to build our talent base.

If this team is going to be a contender, our hopes and dreams are attached to Favors AND Kanter both blossoming. We can't trade that hope of a future for a stud right now that is not a franchise caliber player. Rondo is very, very good. But he's not carrying your team to a title. He's not making up for Jefferson's terrible feet on defense, or his lack of vision and grit on offense. He's not going to prevent us from getting bullied in the paint. He is a great player, and he might even be worth the package here, but that deal would never make sense for the Jazz. If we are going to go where we want to go, Favors and Kanter are going to take us. It's a long shot right now, but that's better than 'pretty good' without any upside.

I would think any trade for Rondo would have to include Kanter. If Celtics decide to scrap it, then Big Al (expiring contract), Kanter, Burks, watson and a #1 for Pierce and Rondo makes sense especially since the Jazz are in the win now mode. To get Rondo you would have to trade a lot and I say do it even though i am not a pearce fan
