This team needs a closer. A dependable one at that. Back in the Duane Ward/Henke days.... Once you got into the 8th inning with the lead... It was 90% over.
Prediction
Spurs in 7. Parker MVP. Lebron 6-17fg, 18pt, 8reb, 5 asst in game 7 LOSS.
The Heat will choke!

Jansen and Sergio should be able to handle the 8th and 9th in combination. If they both post sub 3 ERA's we have a pretty good late inning combo.
Personally I'd trade Bonifacio for a reliever unless we intend to start him.

Both have question marks, especially Santos. We have no idea what Santos will be able to do. Lets just hope that he's healthy and can go out have a good season.

In the same token we don't know what ANYBODY will be able to do. I think the chances he comes back stronger are the same as the chances he comes back weaker. I expect a decent season from both.
I would still acquire another reliever though. I don't think Oliver will be as effective this season.

I may be wrong... but Brandon Morrow seems like a guy who would be great in a closer's role. High velocity pitcher who can strike-out batters. But then again, the team might benefit more with him starting every 5 games.
Janssen could be a good set-up guy, but does he have closer's stuff? Santos is a question mark.

Yeah, no way would you move a pitcher like Brandon to the bullpen. He's easily 10x more valuable in the rotation

Question is...
It's the top of the 8th with 2 outs... 2 runners are on base. The clean-up hitter is next up. Score is 2-1 Jays. Gibbons decides to make a pitching move.
Do we have a closing pitcher that can consistently meet that pressure successfully?

Janssen has and should continue to be more than fine I think. It wouldn't make sense to use the resources necessary to get someone much better than him... since we still have Santos, who if he can get past whatever happened last year is that guy you're looking for, and we still have Lind, who sucks.

Morrow needs to stay in the rotation. This guy is a stud and will one day be our bonafide ace. If he was brought up as a starter sooner in his career he would have been put it all together by now. If he stays healthy this year he's my pick to put up the best numbers of all our starters.

'If necessary' isn't really a consideration, Lind has proven 100 times over that he can't hit LHP at all and should be used in a strict platoon from the day 1 of the season. No need to continue down that road when we already know the outcome.

Yeah we should go after Heath Bell or maybe we can get Cordero back. Can never go wrong with a proven closer.

His point (which I agree with) is Heath Bell and Cordero were both proven closers before they failed miserably. Closer is a fancy word for "overpaid reliever", I'd rather have an internal closer like Jansen or Santos, guys with control and low cost. Adding a reliever makes sense, adding a closer? Not so much.
