Vote: Anthony Davis - Davis is 19, a true big, who's already very productive, with enormous potential. Plays both sides of the ball. Basically locked up for 8 or 9 years. The next Duncan if you believe the scouts. Also the brow.

I have a hard time believing Irving/Rose/CP3/Westbrook are more valuable than him. All these guys are really good, don't get me wrong, but the league is filled with stud PGs. True elite bigs just are very hard to find these days and Davis is (much) younger and cheaper than all these PGs.

Nominate: James Harden

Wait a second.... Davis? He's played less then 10 games!

Vote: Derrick Rose

To me, the best PG in the league when healthy. Injury concerns are viable, but you can't prove a negative.... No one knows how he will play until he hits the floor, and I'm optimistic, considering he's only 24. This spot was between him, Westbrook and Paul, so I picked the guy with the highest upside.

Nominate: Kobe

Can't believe he's not on the freaking nominees list. You think '98 Jordan wasn't among the highest trade values in the league? And Kobe is better then him right now.

The thing about Kobe is, and he is still one of the best players in the NBA, but he has a huge contract, age/knee concerns and you can just imagine the stink he would put up if traded to 90% of NBA teams. Those things drive down trade value. Same thing for Rose in that his injury is driving down his value, and we can only speculate how he will look as he returns and there are more sure things at the moment. Even CP3 has his value pushed down because of his contract status - if he was traded to another team for a big package, he could just pack up and head right back to the Clippers this summer, meaning a team gave up that package for nothing.

In trade value, youth, contract and current production are the ruling factors. GM''s would hate to take a chance at an unsure thing except at a good price. The ranking in this thread is NOT a ranking of how good these players are, which might be hard for fanboys to understand, since the visceral reaction is to yell when your favorite player is left off a top 10 list.

Come on now, fanboys?

Besides the fact that that wasn't called for, I don't think Kobe has been nominated yet by a single Laker fan. The people nominating him I would think on average don't like him.

But the impact of having one of the world's most popular players and the league's leading scorer on a franchise would be dramatic. Kobe is scoring just under 30 ppg leading the league, while maintaining a 60% TS. That is incredible especially when the third option any given night might just be (the legendary) Morris.

Kobe will be an all start starter this year, and would bring a heck of a boost to any teams playoff drive. More then Harden. And much more in the hype box office relevancy categories. Long run if your Charlotte having Harden makes more sense, but for many teams 2 years of Kobe (if not resigned) would be better then 5 of Harden. Especially considering how many GM's get fired every 2 years!

Chris Paul and Dwight Howard will more then likely be on the top 10 on here despite impending free agency. The reason is results (and relevance) is top heavy in the NBA. Having a top 5-10 player is just that much more important then a top 15-20. For the same reason, a Kobe locked up for 2 years and right now looking like the best SG (poor Wade) in the league (and a top 3? marketing draw) seems pretty at place in the top 15-20 of trade value. Okay, rant over.

{I reserve the right to vote for Harden over Kobe in 7 votes. Harden is a great nominee.}

Vote: Davis

He is the frnachise and everyone who watches him play knows he is the real deal and will be for a long time. Pelicans will not trade him for anything.

Nominate: Rubio

Wolves love him. Everyone loves him. Future HOF point guard would be impossible to pry away from DK.

I just feel like there's a lot of knee-jerk reactions in this thread. The season is barely 22-23 games old, and everyone is already basing a lot of their votes on what we've seen until now. I know 'Melo is playing great, one of the top MVP candidates, but it's barely a quarter of the season! Same goes for Irving (15 games... 15!), and Davis.

Everyone seems so keen to dump Howard and Paul (free agents as likely to resign as any free agent has ever been) without considering these players have been the best at their positions since 2008. It's just a bit bewildering to me that people aren't taking the fact that the length of the season is not a good indicator of how people are going to play for all 82 + Playoffs.

No, for Paul and Howard it is not about talent. No one is going to give a butt-load of assets at the trade deadline, just to watch those guys pick their favorite spot this summer. I don't know why people cant wrap their head around the fact this is not solely based on "who is best at their position".

They (and Kobe) certainly will make the list, probably even make the top 10, but their contract situation drops them out of the top 5.
