Avery was terrible... but the whining from people here at the end is riddiculous.
We got a steal, utah was out of position. We had a wide open 3 to win it from wallace. if we run a designed play, do you think we get a better look then that? we probably get an iso contested fade away shot. we also let the defense substitute and set by calling a timeout.
Avery coached horribly this game, but the end, you cant complain about a wide open shot by a player who has been hitting that shot in recent weeks.
as far as the offense, sure too many iso's. but we also are just flat out missing WAAAY to many WIDE open 3's

Idk man, the end of the game was pretty chaotic. Although, I can understand both sides.
Under most circumstances, you call a timeout simply to calm the nerves of your team and setup an inbounding play. I'm sure you've seen a lot of IB plays where they set a ton of screens and cuts to get shooters open so for most teams, it's a designed catch and shoot.
Yes, I do think Avery should've called a timeout but I don't think that him not calling it cost the game. We'll never know what would've happened if he did, but it's definitely not a certainty.
On the flip side, there was no guarantee that Wallace was going to be open. I personally thought JJ could've/should've taken the layup when he was driving right next to the basket.
Did he know that we were only down by two and just needed to tie it up?
I know Wallace has been hitting the 3 at a better clip these past few weeks, but he's not the guy I prefer to have shooting the 3 at the end of the game for me.
IMO there are two types of players that we're sorely missing: 1) 3pt specialist like Morrow 2) PnP/PnR PF
If King can somehow get those types of players post-Jan.15th, I think many of the problems we've been complaining about on offense will be resolved.
That won't fix the coaching but at least it'll help to further mitigate the negative influence Avery has on this team lol.
