Pistons Actively Shopping Austin Daye
A "source" told Yahoo Sports', Marc J. Spears apparently. I'm not sure if we can get much of anything for him, but at least we know why he's all of a sudden back in the rotation.

Now things make sense. I read an article about how Daye "passed his first test" and I was blown away by that. Daye did absolutely nothing in his first game back in the rotation except for play bad defense. I'm so done with Daye at this point that I would be willing to just cut him but I think someone would be willing to give up a 2nd rounder or something.

Maybe for a late 2nd rounder to clear a spot for Ben?

Re: Pistons Actively Shopping Austin Daye
This all makes sense now.
Ben shows up at the Palace multiple times in the last week, saying he's close to returning to a team.
Pistons need a roster spot to make that happen. The thinking is probably 'we'll just buyout Daye, but before we do that, lets showcase/shop him for a week or two and see if someone will take him for a bag of balls so we can save a few dollars.'
It also kind of coincides with English/Middleon going to the d-league. That way when fans see how bad Daye plays, the Pistons don't have to worry about the fans complaining why he's playing over English/Middleton. Sending them to the d-league gave them a built-in excuse to showcase Daye, without interfering with Franks "merit" system.
I'm all for bringing Ben back. It will allow us to start Drummond, and I think now would be a great time for Drummond to have Ben around teaching him some things on defense.

Re: Pistons Actively Shopping Austin Daye
As for Ben, if he does come back, he deserves high praise. In this day where veterans only come out of retirement to go to contenders and chase championships, it'll be kind of refreshing to see someone come out of retirement go to the worst team in the league.
If anyone questioned Ben's loyalty when he went to CHI, there's not much to question now if he comes back. It doesn't get more loyal than coming out of retirement to play for the worst team in the league.

Would Daye fit well with the Lakers as a backup 3/4?
Daye for Meeks?

I hope we trade Daye to the Suns for one of the Lakers 1st round picks they received when they traded Nash...

The idealist in me hopes that we can get an early 2nd rounder for Daye.
But then again Joe might just blow it on a 3/4 tweener again.

Re: Pistons Actively Shopping Austin Daye
I was thinking something crazy like
Daye English our 2nd LAC 2nd and the BG TPE to the Lakers for Jordan Hill and Earl Clark.
The Lakers moved Meeks into the starting lineup English could actually be part of their rotation since he is a decent shooter and Daye would be near home (he is from Cali) in a team with veterans to support him and playing in a good system. He could with some luck fight for the starting spot with Meeks.
Worst case scenario Lakers save almost 3 million this season and add 3 very cheap players to fill the roster next season in exchange for a player who doesn't fit their system in Hill.

Those 1st could be lotto picks no way Phoenix is throwing any of them away.

I'm trying to figure out how this deal helps us?
Hill's been on 3 different teams in his 3 yrs in the league for a reason. If the Lakers can't succeed with him as their 3rd big man, I doubt we'd have any more success here. I'd rather keep English.

Re: Pistons Actively Shopping Austin Daye
If he plays well for us, then his value shoots up considerably - but so does his value to the Pistons going forward. Daye's skill set is a great match for what the Pistons need in the future with their 3 core guys.
If Daye continues to such, then we won't get anything for him, and he won't play anymore for us. We'll then have all of our cap space next summer, Daye will be gone, and the Pistons will be looking for big time shooters, just like Daye was supposed to be.
The "Source" might not be real. In fact, I kindof doubt the source is real, since if the Pistons plan to dump him, his contract expiring is worth more to us this summer than anything we can get for him.

The 2013 Lakers 1st rounder??. By the end of the season the Lakers pick could be around 18-22...

No one is going to give up anything for Daye when they know they can sign him in a couple of weeks. Daye will be cut, we will eat the salary and add Ben.

I wouldn't consider Beasley "value" at this point, no matter what we offer.
It's such a fine line between stupid and clever.

Most likely.
