I'm really glad John friggin' Shannon is there. He's going to ask a dumb hockey related question, I just know it.

I thought it was a great interview. Wish it was longer.
Ive been a big advocate of the fireballer/knuckle/fireballer in the rotation. What R.A mentioned though I didnt even consider and that is if he leaves the game with a lead and you bring in a Steve Delabar or a Sergio Santos who throw heat how are the other players supposed to react when theyve seen Dickey for 3 at bats. There been so few knuckleballers over the years that its hard to get really great stats on it but jsut the idea of it is fantastic.
Cant wait to see him leave in the 7th to see guys way behind on the pitch in the 8th and 9th

Some teams will take their big guns out the lineup for games against knucklers, or at least they did in the old days when I used to watch Hough and Candiotti, so they don't mess up their timing or hurt themselves, so we may face some interesting pinch hitters. It's a great interruption.
Raptors Season Ticketholder since the 2000 playoffs, through all the lows... build to the championship high... to Tampa and back again.

Crazy pitch, like the batter, I would have expected that ball to go to my far left. But it somehow curls back inward.

That's not even fair.
I bet after this contract expires they ban the knuckleball. It just seems unfair.

He won't. There is a reason we traded for their catcher who caught him and their backup catcher who caught him.

R.A has spoken out more than once and stated that he's reached out to J.P and discussed him catching the knuckle ball. Dickey also comment on the fact that he's only stumbled across 2 or 3 catchers who have ever had any major difficulties catching him.

Pretty sure it's been reported that JP and RA both live in Nashville and plan on working out together this winter. Acquiring Thole is probably to safeguard, in case JP struggles with the knuckler.
It's also not a bad idea when a guy is coming off a career/Cy Young year to have the guy who caught him the previous year on your roster. You probably want as much continuity as possible.

The thing is JPA is terrible at catching balls in general. Thole had a lot of PB due to the nature of the knuckleball, but still was considered "good" at catching them. JPA already had 9 passed balls last season catching standard pitches, and Thole had twice that at 18. 13 of the passed balls were Knuckleballs. If JPA is also "good" at catching them, we are talking about 22+ PB's
