How much do you ENJOY watching the Jazz this season?

Post#1 » by QuantumMacgyver » Fri Dec 21, 2012 4:35 pm

NOTE* If anyone knows how to turn this into a poll, I think it could be interesting.

I'm curious to see how much Jazz fans enjoy watching the team this year. I am a long time Jazz fan and have always loved watching and following the team. Oddly enough my favorite season since the John/Karl era was the '03-04 season. The played such hard-nosed, smart basketball. Sadly, this year I find myself watching the games with little or no enjoyment.

It seems like all the things I loved about Utah Jazz basketball is missing this year. No plays, no defense, no great passes, no Ostertag. No doubt I am still going to continue watching the games, I just hope something happens soon to rejuvenate the team.

Am I the only one who feels this way? What do you all think?

It is not satisfying to watch to watch a group of average NBA players (our vets) compete on a sporadic basis. Many of the games our starters don't even compete at the start of the games. We are usually playing from behind. It is frustrating to realize that we are competing for a bottom playoff seed while using all of these experienced players who probably will not be here in the future.

When a young team competes for the final spot there is an excitement that comes from the growth prospects.

I struggle to understand what the Jazz management plan is for the future of the team.

I'm so conflicted on this team. On the one hand I try to watch every single minute of every game (I think the Phoenix one is the only one I've missed in its entirety) and I still want them to win every game I watch; but on the other hand I find I'm not quite as emotionally invested in them as I have been in the past. I think that's in large part due to the transient feel of this year's roster; perhaps I don't want to get attached to a group of guys who are going to be gone in six months.

Honestly, it's a tough team to love. They're not a group of scrappy overachievers; they're not a group of dependable veterans who play hard every night; they often don't play appealing team basketball. This team still has no identity.

I like watching them beat the Lakers when I'm hanging with Laker fans. Other than that it's not the most lovable team. I still get exited for most wins... The Nets finish was the least exciting win ever. I was just like You have got to be kidd... oh ok then.

Great topic. I believe its a common theme among the old reliable fans. It's evident in the attendance, that for several years the excitement surrounding the Jazz is fading. In my opinion its the lack of hard-nosed night in and night out grind it out identity that is missing. Simply put, it just doesn't feel like Jazz basketball.

I think the forum activity is another manifestation of it. Somehow there is just not as much to talk about these days. I'll still follow, but its not as big of a deal if I miss a game this year. I think the marketing is better, but the product is worse. Hopefully we catch a break because its a bad trend.

Ever since Sloan left we no longer play Jazz basketball. Accountability, passing, cutting. Sticking to our flex system. Now we seem to play a lot more freestyle ball since none of our PG can seem to make entry passes down low consistently.

Sure we may have never won the ship with Jerry, but the way we played and managed the team was really unique/fun to watch compared to the rest of the league.

I wont be happy until I see this lineup consistently, win or lose. These are who I want to watch together:

pass 1st PG
Hayward/Burks
Marv
Favors
Kantor

I actually really like Demarre. I'd add him and Paul to that lineup, but I 100% agree with the pass 1st PG. I'd love to Vasquez on this team.

No. This team is boring. Average coach. Average players. Average record. If they werent in SLC (best HCA in the league)...they be a lottery-type team every season. Truth.

I love watching all the Jazz games but I get upset and heartburn every game bc how Corbin, a good coach in that I like his style of play and team seems prepared, just makes idiotic substitutions and is a terrible game manager. Would I prefer losing more games where the young guys were playing the bulk of the minutes. I say definitely yes. I live in Laker country and here it is NOT about making the playoffs, it is about building a championship contender. Millsap and Jefferson will never be starters on a championship contender. The young guys, just might be that good, but we will never know unless they get the bulk of the minutes.
Play with the Pass, Play with a Purpose, and Play with Pace along with Obvious Unselfishness....Coach Snyder says the sky is purple than Jazz players say nice purple sky! LONG LIVE THE MAD SCIENTIST!!!!

I am excited and cheer for them. I like to watch the young guys develop. I am always interested in trade talk. It seems to me the big 7 foot 2 inch center for Indiana and two other bigs gave the jazz problems. We need to solve that and get better point guard play. Never the less, I will cheer for what we have and hope they get better.

Corbin get a raw deal from the fans yet it's the FO that needs to make the moves to make this team more enjoyable to watch and that means moving Al Jefferson for a PG which will free up minutes to our young bigs. Could that become more clear than from the Indiana game? Jefferson is frustratingly slow on the defensive end and his high shot volume offense sure as hell doesn't make up for it. Not to mention he is one of the least exciting player to watch in the league- at least Boozer was exciting to watch offensively even if his defense was just as bad as Big Al's. One reason I prefer those jazz teams with a healthy D-Will over this one.

I want to see Kanter and Favors and the other young guys with Sap.This is what I get out of this current team.

I don't enjoy much until Ty pulls out the starters and then I can see the future of the team on the court.

They're less fun to watch than last year. Corbin's mismanagement of games is starting to have a cumulative effect that's wearing on me. More than that, there's been plenty of games where it looks like only a few guys actually care about what's going on.

I DVR every game and I find myself fast forwarding even close games because I want to see Favors and Kanter play instead of the Al/Sap grind. I was a defensive minded player in all the sports I played as a kid and really enjoy watching good defense and when I see crap defense I get disgusted.

I also like watching good floor generals and teamwork on the offensive end. I miss Dwill and having a PG that run an offense and execute plays. The grind we have going now is not cutting it and it is difficult to watch.

I would prefer to watch the development of the young talent on this team and watch the team lose because of silly mistakes (which I think they will learn from) than watch a ugly grind of a .500 team that can't play defense.

I defended the decisions of the past year to play vets but the time to unleash and develop the youth is now.

Not much at all......

But that changes when Favors and, sometimes, Hayward step out on the floor......

The transitory feel of this season's roster is kind of disheartening but its the name on the front of the jersey that matters and i'll always be excited to watch them play.

I agree wholeheartedly with everything in this post, including the fast forwarding. The lack of accountability for certain players is just killing me.

I kind of lost my jazz spirit. I get more frustrated than anything when I watch games now.

watch every game. As all 3-4 seasons in the past.

and this is like a habit already. Joy? I had better joy even last year. It was a problem with 3 shooting. But we knew that we will have 50 pts in the paint. That we will punish every team inside.

It was a fun first 10-12 games. When we had light out shooting.
But anyway. Watching the best game in the world. With your favorite team even they loosing by 20 at Indiana.
Makes you hope that someday Utah will have that rings))

Seems I'm with most of you.... it's an underwhelming experience because it's being unfavourably compared to an expectedly improved future. That the Jazz is a bit mediocre really does compound the issue.
