How long does it take before a player clears waivers? Since he got DFA's on Nov 30th by the Yanks and only claimed by Houston on Dec 6th, which is 6 days, which seems like a really long time for a player to be in limbo on waivers (especially compared to the 24hr NHL waivers).

I believe it is 3 business days they are exposed... And DFA just means you have 10 days to do something with the player to get them off your roster, so you get the roster spot right away.

E.x. If we signed BJ Upton, we wouldn't waive Rajai Davis. We would DFA him, which essentially does the same thing. It gives us the roster spot, and gives us 10 days to either trade or put him on waivers (if we wish to try and pass him through waivers, we need to do so within the first 7 days). He will be released at the end of the 10 day period. If you were going to sneak a player through waivers, you would DFA him first.

Note: Rajai is a bad example, as we wouldn't DFA a player of that quality.

And the Jays put Storey through waivers as expected. He was outrighted to Buffalo as the team picked up Russ Canzler (who could be the answer at platoon DH).

Interesting. I knew nothing of Canzler until I just quickly looked up his stats and lefty splits whom he mashed. Any additional info you know about him Randle?

Is he really a viable option on a team like ours for a full time platoon player? He is only 26-27 which is one positive, but once again, I have no clue about him.

Wilner tweeted out that he could possibly be a platoon guy for Lind and may be the 25th man.

EDIT: Here it is

Dunno. His splits at the mlb level are over a pretty small sample size. In the minors the splits weren't really there.

Not much beyond the fact that he mashes minor league pitching and hasn't gotten a chance yet in the majors. Looks like he could be heading for AAAA status unless he can find a MLB niche soon.

Blog post about him from last spring: http://mlb.sbnation.com/2012/2/1/276198 ... nd-indians

The fact that he's able to hit against both kinds of pitchers in the minors isn't exactly a point against him. The fact that he's only done it in the minors is.

Great claim by the Jays. Somebody who can platoon (potentially) with Lind is worth far more than an unproven reliever.

The Blue Jays announced that they outrighted right-hander Mickey Storey to Triple-A Buffalo. Toronto had claimed Storey off of waivers earlier in the week.

yes, but it hurts him that the splits aren't as pronounced as in the majors.

From the sample size I see he hit a .866ops in the minors against lefties over 303pa's, and .863ops against righties.

What does a .866ops in the minors translate to in the majors? Is it any better than Davis?

I wouldn't even look much at his MLB stats. They aren't large enough (102 PA) to take much of anything from (though it's not a bad thing, I suppose, that he hit lefties during his short time up).

There are MLEs for this sort of thing, but the only way to truly find out is to give him a chance (which he hasn't gotten yet). Not sure the 2013 Jays is the time or place for that, but it's possible.
