Will Haslem stay as starting PF?
Upside:
- Defensively, we're starting games off better
- Haslem's playing better
- We're rebounding better (sans Warriors game)
- The team looks like they're playing with more energy and making more effort plays
Downside:
- Floor stretching might be a concern if Haslem isn't knocking down his jumpshot
- Battier can space the floor better
- LBJ/Wade have to take on the assignment of guarding the other team's best wing player instead of Battier

None of them. Take Haslem out of the rotation, Battier off the bench as PF, start Joel/Jorts/Pittman next to Bosh.
i Believe that any of our Centers can provide what Haslem provides (below average defense, bad offense, and decent rebounding) and even more than that. we have nothing to lose by trying.

Players have told me that Pittman's been making that jump hook in practice. He may get real minutes at some point this season.

17-6 with Small ball. You know damn well Spo will not change things around. We all know you want that to happen, but thats a pipe-dream...YOUR pipe dream.
Haslem will most likely continue to start since our Defense has started games out well since he's been in the starting lineup. Battier seems pretty comfortable coming off the bench along with the Warden.

Yep same here. I voted Battier the last time because I didn't believe in Battier off the bench in pair with Lewis. The insertion of Anthony in the lineup have changed that scenario and the Finals S5 option with Battier will always be there if need be. The Anthony, Battier, LeBron front-court has done a good job so far at the end of the first quarter. Both Bat and Warden has put a lot of emphasis on boxing out and letting LeBron pick up the boards. Looks alright from what i've seen.
Cole-Allen-Battier-James-Anthony: Min - 23.6, Off - 1.06, Def - 0.89 (tiny sample size)
A big reason for this move is probably to maximize the odds of Haslem rounding in to form again.

Re: Will Haslem stay as starting PF?
Hm.. I liked Shane starting, but not as PF. He has had some great games for us starting, especially with those 3's. Now we will have to count on Rio and LBJ to hit a sure 3 in the 1st quarter before the bench arrives.
Either way, we get less floor spacing regardless with Haslem. Bench comes in, floor wide open. I don't mind.

Let's compare :
When UD is on the court (compared to when he's on the bench) :
defensive rating is worse (by 4 points) and offensive rating slightly better (by 1 point).
So when Haslem is playing the total is = -3.
When Battier is on the court (compared to when he's on the bench) :
defensive rating is better (by 10 points) and offensive rating is worse (by 3 points).
So when Battier is playing the total is = +7.
When Haslem is on the court we also actually rebound worse compare to when he's on the bench, which i find intersting.

I like Joel and Pitt and Jorts as utility players off the bench, each brings something unique, but I'd go with Haslem. The Heat are playing a lot more physical and with effort since UD has been inserted. The Heat have something going here and should ride the momentum.

While it sucks that UD has become such a non-factor on offense and is kinda slow for our team defense, his man defense has been on point. I've been very impressed by his D the last two games. He's been forcing his guy into tough shots.

Heat look like they're playing much better defense. I don't know why the stats don't reflect this. Maybe it's just me, although after the Jazz game, Spo said we're getting back to looking like a Miami Heat basketball team, which is the ultimate compliment to UD.RexBoyWonder wrote:Let's compare :

Re: Will Haslem stay as starting PF?
Anyone else notice Haslem seems to kind of step on Bosh's toes? Not literally.. well sometimes literally.
Bosh has his set ways . But so many times Haslem attempts to set the exact same screen as Bosh and literally you have 2 people touching shoulders setting the same screen running into eachother. Or with rebounds they get caught up down low. Or when one should roll and the other pop they both pop. It kind of gets annoying. Haslem needs to learn to become a part of the offense . I feel like a lack of practice with the starting unit has a lot to do with this.

But who are they on the court with? This statistic is much more realistic ( viewtopic.php?f=20&t=1213669&p=33647614#p33635328 )

Re: Will Haslem stay as starting PF?
I liked it when Joel Anthony started.
He is a tremendous all-around defender, can block/alter shots, good on pick and roll, great at boxing out, etc. The Heat defense plays a lot better when he is on the court from what I have seen.
I think as long as the Heat don't start Battier or Lewis at PF, they should be fine. They need to cut the small ball lineups out until the post-season or until Lebron is the one playing PF. They can't get away with Shane and Shard playing PF against most teams. They can against some teams, but not most, hence why Miami struggled earlier this season especially on defense.
