Re: Wiz-Board Draft Poll
After much thought, I think the Wizards should draft MKG. Right now the Wizards have 2 huge holes to fill. One at SG, and one at SF. The Wizards have 2 huge assets available to fill those holes. One is the 3rd pick in this draft. The other is the vast amount of salary cap space the Wizards should have either this season or next. I have looked at the free agent market over the next 2 seasons, and there are many more SGs available who I would be content to give big money to as oppossed to the number of SF free agents who are available. Consequently, I hope the Wizards use the 3rd pick on MKG, and then sign a high priced free agent SG either this off season or next.
Viva le tank! At this pace, it will never end.

i think the opposite is true...there aren't many SGs on the market that have Beal's ability to impact (that we could acquire without breaking the bank). There are however many upgrades at SFs available that could be sought for cheap. I prefer MKG as a player to Beal...but given FA, I'm beginning to think Beal may be a better play, unless he ends up being 6'1 or something.
* some names at SF that I think are reasonable to acquire, G. Green, D. Green (a little undersized at 6'6 though), J. Green, Batum (assuming Ernie feels we have no shot of landing Harden).

You have to have shooters on the floor in today's NBA..There no way you can go with Wall at the point and MKG on the wing. Your spacing for the next 10 years would be awful.
One below average perimeter shooter at the 1,2 and 3 is all a team can afford.

Actually, I think we are saying the same thing. IE, the choice is between MKG and a high priced SG versus Beal and a low priced SF. You prefer the latter, while I prefer the former. The Wizards have the money, and I want them to spend it to get the best talent available.
Also, don't discount the law of supply and demand. IE, alot of supply of SGs might mean more bargains at the SG spot (even on players you assume the Wizards will have to break the bank on), while the small supply of high quality SF might mean Wizards will have to overpay for players you assume to be bargains.

I think Lou Williams provides the best value for the dollar spent and is probably the best bet for the Wizards to sign, as I believe he will be unrestricted should he opt out of his deal which I think is likely.
Ray Allen and Manu Ginobli are great players that might be worth taking a look at, but given their ages might not be what the Wizards need for a long term solution.
The restricted Free Agents such as Eric Gordon and James Harden look great, but are probably unavailable.
Ronnie Brewer and JR Smith given the right price might be worth signing.

I would add B. Rush, Redd (assuming he really has healed, but not sure why he would go from Phx's medical staff to ours), R. Fernandez and Marco Belinelli as guys to look at if we go that route. I guess Danny Green could play SG as well...

Sorry, but despite this 'motor' I keep hearing about with MKG, he has no known jumper. Placing him on a team already devoid of that would be akin to drafting Chris Singleton two years in a row...
I see people on this forum has jokes.
No - actually I was/am quite serious.
No need to draft a guy and hope he can develop a jumper.
Did that with Wall...and still waiting for his shot to come around
I am all for great defense, but last time I checked, we cannot beat teams by scoring 65-70 pts a night

Why overspend on Lou Williams when we can draft a potentially better 2G in Beal (and cheaper)?

Re: Wiz-Board Draft Poll
I hardly have my finger on the pulse of college basketball at this point, but my preferences would be:
A trade for Harden if it's available. I would not give up Seraphin and I don't see Vesely outbound (for a bunch of reasons, but basically his current trade value versus his upside makes him a poor choice to move). However, I would throw in the fracking kitchen sink from any sweeteners beyond that (not so much future firsts, though). Nene would certainly be on the table, though I'm a fan.
Otherwise, I'd go MKG as the first choice and then Beal next.
Some of the trade downs are interesting, but we could outsmart ourselves on that unless we had real good intelligence. Before anyone brings up front office jokes, by intelligence, I mean information on what the Bobcats, Cavaliers or Kings are doing.
Drummond is interesting, but it's a tough sell with us being at 3 rather than 5 or 6.

No-worries, we can merge the data.

Bump for the historical perspective. Drummond received 1 vote with Dat having him 3rd on his board. Hoopalotta was "intrigued" by Drummond, but had Beal 1st on his board.

Re: Wiz-Board Draft Poll
I hated Drummond for the .278 FT shooting and his lack of production. I think I've never been more wrong.
I wanted to trade down and wasn't that excited about Beal.
In retrospect, trading down to trade away Blatche could have yielded a future pick. Even though Tyler Zeller is not a world beater, I think right now Zeller and a future first, plus not having any amnesty pay for Blatche might be better than Beal.

Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

It's a long season to go. Drummond could cool down and Beals shot start falling. I'm still happy with the Beal pick but the Bobcats should have took Drummond. He has potential to be a defensive anchor.
