I really don't think it would have been difficult finding a taker for Asik's contract eventually had we matched Houston's offer. Who wouldn't want that guy on their team?

Re: Christmas Day GT: Rockets @ Bulls 7pm ESPN
This is the thing.
We arent talented enough to have more than 1 guy playing like crap out there. Whether its Boozer, Kirk, Taj etc.
We need everyone. We need Luol and Noah to play like Allstars every night just to have a chance to win. Its unbelievable that we have actually been ahead even after losing RUP, getting nothing from Kirk most nights and Boozer showing up only half the time.
We will bounce back though.

You keep Asik, put Noah at the 4, dump Boozer. Problem solved.

You can't give a guy 25 million to back up Noah when you're intent on staying under the cap, and you shouldn't just let a guy as good as Omer walk for nothing.
Didn't we hear rumors of the Bulls talking to teams about Asik? I'm sure they weren't shopping him but they were listening. They deemed most of what they got unsuitable. The Bulls still believed they could contend and dealing Asik without getting another big wouldn't have satisfied that goal.
It's a tough spot to be in. Boston traded Kendrick Perkins during a year when people thought they were contending, and everyone killed Ainge for it.
Kendrick Perkins was Boston's starting center. Asik, as good as he is, was our 4th big man. And we needed more offense anyway. Made sense to move him to me but hey... I believe in packaging valuable backup pieces like Omer, Taj, Butler, Teague etc... before they become too expensive to be backups anymore. Especially with an owner who's not about to pay the luxury tax.
What would they have gotten for Asik that would have brought more offense that would have helped win a title? The bulls weren't going to net an allstar type player for Omer (which is the type of player that you would want considering that you already had plenty of borderline allstar players on the team already). If the bulls were going to make a move for Asik, then it would have been a cost cutting move, which would have impacted our chances at a title last year. If Rose never got hurt, and the bulls would have lost in the playoffs, I gaurantee that people would have burned the FO at the stake

I agree with this, entirely. Hinrich is the one playing like a third string guard (generous).
Same thing I said a couple of days ago in another thread. I'd take Teague and Nate over Kirk and Rip any day.
Also, I cannot believe how good Asik has been so far this season. 20/18? Damn.
Kirk, fine. But Rip? Are you serious? Did you even see Rip play this year? This is totally insane if you really believe this.

Asik will be the best center in the league by the ASG.

Another good example of why coaches and players aren't the most reliable talent evaluators. The GM should be able to determine what is in the best interest of the organization, without being influenced from personell.
I agree but we have to keep Rose happy.
Besides, this is more of a criticism of Rose.
He asks management for help, and the first guy he recruits is Hinrich?

Perfect example of why you should have the general manager focus on player acquisitions and players focus on playing. Rose probably thought Kirk was the same guy he played with in his rookie year when it's clear that he's no longer the same player.

Re: Christmas Day GT: Rockets @ Bulls 7pm ESPN
Example of why most here were clueless about Asik and now think he is unbelievably improved:
per 36 on his career... averages of 9 and 12
He was like this before. A lot of people here really do get swayed by per-game stats I guess.
