Next Season needs

Post#1 » by vege » Sun Dec 30, 2012 11:19 am

According to KL next season we'll likely need a skilled big man a point guard and wing athlete. Obviously a trade could change everything

He was talking about the draft but I'll extend this to the Free Agency. Which Free Agents would fit this criteria?

Skilled Big Man - Andray Blatche / Carl Landry (P) / Marreese Speights (P) / J.J. Hickson / Tiago Splitter* / Al Jefferson / Paul Millsap

Point Guard - Jarrett Jack / Chauncey Billups / Brandon Jennings* / Eric Maynor* / Jose Calderon

Wing Athlete - Gerald Henderson* / Corey Brewer / J.R. Smith (P)

* being restrict free agent.
(P) being player option.

Am I missing anyone? Should we go after any of those names in Free Agency? Which one are realistic attainable and worth going after?

Millsap, Maynor and Brewer would be my choices and Redick is another guy id love to have on the team if we could move Stuckey between now and free agency.

I think we could realistically get Maynor and Brewer, Millsap not so sure but the other bigs on the list are either going to resign with their teams or get paid far more than theyre worth.

I think we should sign Millsap if possible.
Then i feel like Our biggest need is to address SG. Stuckey seems to be best suited to combo guard 6th man, so a starting SG would be the best and tht allows Singler to move to back up SF which i feel is his best spot.
I'd also like to see what Middleton can do before signing an athletic wing, because he could fill that role.
Not sure what FA fills that, but a trade should work it out.
If Joe could trade for E.Gordon I'd be over the moon.

Knight / Stukey
E. Gordon / English / Middleton
Prince / Singler / Middleton
Moose / Milsap / CV
Drummond / Moose / Slava

That looks pretty good to me.
Knight / Stuckey / E Gordon is a nice 3 guard rotation and Moose / Dre / Millsap is a nice big rotation.

so how exactly does Joe trade for Gordon without giving up ANY assets?

Yeah it looks like Gordon hasn't skipped a beat coming back from injury. Top 5 pick might get it done if he wants out.

Magic??

I dunno, but maybe once we get our pick we could add that to a TPE and some of our lower prospects like English, Middleton... anyone outside of Dre, Monroe and knight.

And maybe Tay + expirings + a second rounder for LeBron? He could be the primary ball handler and Knight could focus on spot up shooting. He's a solid defender too.

Well when Lebron becomes injury prone, overpaid and unhappy in Miami, we can offer that up. Gordon didn't want to be in New Orleans, he may ask to be traded.

Not too concerned about a few extra W's... with most teams needing bigs there's a good chance of 3 or 4 of these guys falling back... Shabazz, Otto Porter, Archie Goodwin, Alex Poythress, McLemore

This is pretty much how I along with probably many others see the future:

Starting Lineup:
Knight
--(SG)--
--(SF)--
Monroe
Drummond

Bench:
--(Veteran PG)--
--(SG)--
Singler
--(PF)--
--(Veteran C)--

In other words, I'd like to shop around for a starting SG and SF as well as a reserve veteran PG, SG, PF and veteran C for the bench. Yeah I know I'm not Tom Gores or Joe D and this isn't NBA 2K13 but oh well.

I doubt Iggy will be a FA and I would say Josh Smith is an athletic big not an athletic winger or a skilled big men. :-?

Maybe something like this:

Pistons trade: Rodney Stuckey, Kyle Singler, #6 to New Orleans for Eric Gordon on draft day. Detroit gets a go to scorer and NOH gets an expiring contract who is productive in Stuckey, a young SG/SF prospect in Singler and a top 10 pick for a guy who has got a lot of talent but is disgruntled.

We fill out the rest of roster with roll players, I'd resign Austin Daye, go after Gerald Henderson, Zaza Pachulia and Billups

Knight/Billups/2013 2nd rounder
Gordon/Henderson/English
Prince/Daye/Middleton
Monroe/CV/Jerebko
Drummond/Pachulia/Slava

princeofpalace wrote:Id give up our first for Gordon if we land in the 6-8 range again and I think NOH would do it considering that Gordon doesnt want to be in New Orleans. Something like Rodney Stuckey/2012 First for Eric Gordon should be palatable for both teams.

Has Gordon indicated he has wanted out recently? He seems to have been a model citizen during his rehab. If he has come around to the idea of being a Hornet then I see no reason whatsoever for NOH to trade him. He would clearly be the number one guy I want if he some how became available though.

I think Milsap should be our first option as a super sub off the bench. I would also try and sign a cheap backup center like Dalembert to play 10 or so minutes a game. Other than that all of our efforts should be concentrated on acquiring a SG. Unfortunately, we have won 4 of our last 5 games and we have a stretch of very winnable games coming up. We have played better lately and our bench has really stepped up so I'm not so sure we can rely on a top lottery pick anymore. Mayo has dropped off lately so maybe we could get him for 9 or 10mil if he is our last option.

Knight/Stuckey
Mayo/Stuckey
Prince/Singler
Monroe/Milsap
Drummond/Dalembert

I wouldn't mind rolling with that team at all. Great potential with tons of internal improvement. Could be pretty good if Frank learns how to handle rotations better.

Havent heard one way or the other about EG. I would be ok with Mayo as a consolation prize if he starts playing well again but his slumping may indicate that he was jsut in a hot streak. Id be a tad scared that Mayo would end up a Ben Gordon redo.

This is what I want to see

Knight/Point guard that passes first
Go to Shooter&Scorer/SG that can defend
Prince/SF that can shoot
Monroe/Pf that can shoot
Drummond/Center that can defend/board/block

Bump....

I'm leaning more toward picking up multiple cheap and YOUNG FAs with "potential" to bust out over spending huge to take a flier on Mayo/Milsap.

Cheap guys I'd like to target:

PG Maynor
(sign 1 of)- SG Henry, SG Stephenson, or SG Meeks
SF Aminu
PF Earl Clark

I dunno who I want in FA at the moment. I want to see what we look like after the draft. I think a trade as opposed to crazy FA spending is better.

I completely agree with this. It would be fantastic if we could flip Jerebko & Stuckey for another expiring.

In FA I'd like to add Josh Smith, Igoudala (if he opts out), Andrew Bynum, Tyreke Evans, OJ Mayo, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Brandon Jennings or Paul Millsap. Those are the only players I see worth giving a long term contract. If we strike out on all of them, either use our cap to sign youngish guys to 1 year deals (Dallas with Mayo) or sell our space to teams desperate to drop salary & willing to include young players/draft picks to do it (Cleveland-Memphis trade).

The last thing we need to do is hand out Maxiell/Bynum type contracts to guys like Eric Maynor.
