Football gloves questions

Post#1 » by TNBT » Mon Dec 24, 2012 2:53 pm

I wasn't sure where the best place was to post this, so I settled on here. They're starting an American football team here in my city which will play in the state league starting in 2013. I'm going to be playing CB/SS/FS and I'm looking to get myself some gloves to hopefully help with my ability to grip the ball when I can get a hand on it. I've been told that different gloves have different characteristics (grip, padding, etc) and as such are suited to different positions. I'm looking at probably getting the Reebok Pro Fade gloves, or the Reebok Shred gloves. If anyone knows anything much about gloves and which style would suit my position the best, I'd love to get some advice.

Get something that's tackified. Other than that, whatever feels comfortable.

You also chose the right position to play. :D

Are Cutters really as good as they say? I read a quote somewhere that they have the best grip of any gloves on the market. Is that the case? I haven't been able to find a size chart online for Reebok or Cutters though, or any brand other than Nike, so I've been looking at the Nike Vapor Jet gloves today. Are they very comfortable and give good dexterity/hand movement?

No idea about the Vapor Jets, but yes the Cutters are as good as they say.

If you want to test them out go to the store and get a pair of Cutters and a football. Grip the tip of the football as far up as you can without dropping it with your bare hand, then do the same thing while wearing the Cutters. It's astounding. The coefficent of static friction on those things is simply absurd and I say that after having done an experiment on them this year. Harder to move a brick on those gloves across a flat surface than it is on anything we tested including sandpaper.

Sweet, I'd love to check out the Cutters gloves. The only problem is that American football over here is probably about as popular as cricket is over there, so sports stores don't really stock anything to do with the sport besides the balls.

Get those ones that the college football players use. The ones with the pictures of a Trojan if you put them together. Or an A for Alabama when they press the hands together. O for Oregon, those are cool gloves. If you cant catch you cant catch. Doesnt matter the type of gloves. You can get the best gloves, but as they say . . . it aint the gloves that make the player. It aint the shoes neitha.

Yeah, I'm not expecting miracles from my gloves. I've only had two training sessions, and one of them was me hobbling around on a busted ankle. Like I said, I'm going to be playing CB, not WR, so taking catches isn't as big of a deal. However, I have no doubt that once I get used to where I'm running on different routes in practice, and get better chemistry with the QB, I should improve.
