Lets use this thread to discuss all things related to team Canada's WBC team. The WBC is scheduled to take place before the next season.

Latest news have Russell Martin suggesting that he wants to play Short Stop in the tournament since team Canada does not have major league SS.

What do you guys think the line up/roster will look like?

Some names off of the top of my head:

C: Kottaras
1B: Votto
2B: Peter Orr?
SS: Russell Martin
3B: Lawrie
OF: Saunders
OF: Jason Bay
OF: ?
DH: Moreanu

SP: Bedard
SP: Dempster (Although Dempster refused to play last time)
SP: DIamond
SP: Francis

SU: Jesse Crain
CL: Axford

Apparently the WBC team will train in Arizona instead of Florida with the Blue Jays, although Beeston is working with the WBC to try and change it.

Luke Carlin should be backup catcher if Martin plays shortstop.

I hope our next wave of youngsters like Aumont, Kellogg, Paxton, and Carlin get a chance.

Here's a list of Canadians in the MLB or minors:

Less chance he gets hurt playing SS than C, I figure, so I don't see why they wouldn't be.

Chris Robinson is still playing AAA ball and has shown up to represent Canada on multiple occasions so he should be in the backup Cather mix.

Two things about the Martin-SS discussion. First Martin won't likely be a free-agent by the time it takes place. Secondly, it's far less dangerous and taxing on the body playing SS than it is C so I'm not sure why any team would object to such a move?

Apparently it was the position he played growing up and throughout high school.

I remember Bob Elliott talking about Jameson Taillon playing for Canada.

Van Ostrand and Gillies are good bets too.

He can barely stay healthy enough to hold down a MLB job so I can't imagine him risking his health for the WBC.

Good God that promising group of Canadian pitchers from 6-9 years ago turned into an injury prone bunch.

I thought Jeff Francis was going to be a stud. Actually I can't believe he's still in the majors, but it's nice to see he's made a great living for himself

Whitt to manage Canada at World Baseball Classic

Ernie Whitt will once again lead Canada's team at the 2013 World Baseball Classic in March.

Baseball Canada announced the coaching staff on Wednesday.

Whitt will return to the manager's post that he held at the inaugural World Baseball Classic in 2006 and again at the 2009 event. Whitt will head a veteran coaching staff that includes Larry Walker (Hitting/First Base Coach), Tim Leiper (Third Base Coach), Denis Boucher (Pitching Coach), Paul Quantrill (Bullpen/Pitching Coach), Stubby Clapp (Coach) and Greg Hamilton (Coach and Director of National Teams).

The coaching staff, with the exception of Clapp and Quantrill, led Canada to victory at the World Baseball Classic Qualifier in Germany last September.

"I am extremely honoured and excited to return as Manager for Canada at the upcoming World Baseball Classic," said Whitt. "I look forward to working with many familiar faces on our coaching staff and wearing the Canadian colours once again."

"I am thrilled with the coaching staff we have assembled for the World Baseball Classic," said Hamilton. "All members of our staff have represented Baseball Canada in the past which speaks to their commitment and dedication to our program."

Larry Walker should pick up the bat and play for us. Probably do a decent job too.

Is James Paxton going to play?

Updated the original post to make this the official thread for the World Baseball Classic.

I added the full schedule. It will be stickied closer to the tournament.
